Nvidia will present the gameworks ray tracing technology this Monday

NVIDIA and Microsoft have teamed up to create GameWorks Ray Tracing and RTX Tech technologies, which will enable the next generation of NVIDIA graphics cards to manage Ray Tracing lighting effects in real time.
Real-time Ray Tracing lighting effects with GameWorks Ray Tracing
Ray Tracing technology allows the lighting effects to be calculated in real time and how it affects the stage, such as light reflecting surfaces, shadows and ambient occlusion. Until now, this is only possible using prerecorded (cinematic) scenes, but NVIDIA and Microsoft plan to add this technology with GameWorks Ray Tracing so that they can be calculated in real time. Naturally, this requires a lot of computing power and only upcoming Volta-based NVIDIA graphics cards will be able to run them under Microsoft's DirectX API.
This RTX technology is going to be "highly optimized" in the upcoming NVIDIA Volta GPUs and the green company has partnered with Microsoft to add it to the DirectX API, which is already being used by major publishers and developers, such as Electronic Arts, 4A Games. (which will launch Metro Exodus this year) and Remedy Games (which is already working on Project 7, scheduled for 2019). The API is said to be supported by the most popular game engines, such as Epic's Unreal Engine 4 through Unity 5 and DICE's Frostbite engine, now used in almost all games created by Electronic Arts.
On Monday we will be able to know many more details about this when its official announcement is made.
