Oled vs led: which is better for my television?
Table of contents:
When you are reviewing the best televisions on the market, the first question begins: OLED vs LED ?. Without going too far… in the words of technological progress, LED televisions have been revolutionary for the world since their appearance in the 21st century. However, since 2010, a few years after the LED boom, a new technology for the projection of color pixels on screens has been of great importance: OLED TVs.

OLED vs LED: Which one is better for my TV?
In the first instance, it should be noted that LED TVs are named after the initials of light-emitting diode , translated as light-emitting diode . On the other hand, OLED TVs originate from the term organic light-emitting diode, which conceptualizes the same light-emitting diode but being the diode, in this case, organic . It goes without saying that the diode is a device made up of two electrodes, which are electrical conductors, which allow the circulation of a unilateral electric current.
LED TVs have the nature that their diodes backlight the TV panel through color filters. In itself, the body of the apparatus remains as an LCD television ( liquid crystal display, translated as liquid crystal display) but the presence of LED illuminators allows to reduce the number of color pixels present in the television, so that it becomes more efficient in terms of energy consumption.
The radical difference with OLED TVs is that they generate light by themselves. As such, LED TVs really do have LED illuminators u positioned so that they can color the light on the panel emitted by the TV's electrical system. OLED lighting systems are made up of the same diodes; they do not color another light because they themselves emit their own light .
LED TVs or OLED TVs? Which is better?
With the revolution of 2004, it was possible to see where the technological innovations in the area were heading: reduction of the thickness of the machine. By reducing the number of LED pixels, these televisions at the time were the ones who imposed the vanguard in audiovisual projection.
However, less than a decade later OLED technology shows how this progress was no more than a small step; By eliminating the rear light source and being able to have lighting emitted by its own diodes, the reduction in the thickness of the screen can even reach 0.05mm. And the aspirations go far beyond the thickness: the practicality and functionality of the screens take on a new meaning, since the diodes can be placed in plastic layers, which are much more flexible and can allow the screen to be turned into a touch device. Contrary to traditional LEDs, which require a glass base.
On the other hand, LED TVs brought with them the benefits of high color standards. Despite this, it would soon be discovered that saturation faults or halos of white light would occur that were not properly filtered by the colored pixels. With RGB bases that allow almost unimaginable combinations.
With the presence of OLEDs this is not a problem, in fact the improvement is undeniable: the color of the light, when emitted organically, is totally pure. Maintaining the RGB structure, the colors are as sharp as they are saturated depending on the scale in which it is emitted. The latter can be seen above all in the contrasting colors (found at opposite poles of the color wheel, such as the case of red and blue).
By allowing yourself to work with self-generated and self-sufficient color lighting, the brightness of the screen takes new standards, because it does not dull colors as it could with LEDs. This same feature allows organic diodes to have a much faster color emission response, so screen speed and angle perception are highly optimized.

On the environmental side, not using mercury anymore is a less highly appreciated mineral exploitation.
Despite this, there are drawbacks that are in the process of being resolved. Chief among them is the rapid degradation that colors can present, since diodes cannot optimally emit self-sustaining light forever. In addition, humid environments affect the projection of colors on the screen.
Not yet massifying their production, they can be seen by companies as high-risk models. Although it is cheaper in comparison, producing it in small quantities will result in losses for the company, at least until the problems are solved and greater durability is guaranteed.

In theoretical terms, obviously OLED TVs are the immediate future of multimedia projection, but for this they must overcome the first technological drawbacks that products always present by having such innovative features immediately. Six years after their first launches, great solutions can be expected that will position them highly in the market.
As Sony is one of its first manufacturers and sponsors, all you have to do is wait for what offers they offer to promote and stimulate the sale of this technology. With the projections made, they will go from the television plan to any intelligent electronic device that can support the system.
