Ozone Double Tap technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
The Ozone Double Tap keyboard and mouse combo comes in a cardboard box, with a design that follows the brand's usual aesthetic with a predominance of red and black colors. On the front we see the logo of the brand along with an image of the keyboard, the mouse, and the most important specifications. On the back are detailed all the specifications of the two products, in several languages including Spanish.
Once we open the box we find the keyboard, and the mouse very well protected individually, and accommodated by a rather large piece of cardboard, which prevents them from moving during transport to the home of the end user.
First, we look at the keyboard that has a black plastic trim and quite attractive. Its dimensions are 473 x 168 x 39 mm and its weight of 860 grams, it is a keyboard quite heavy to be a membrane, which makes us think of a great quality of internal construction. Regarding size, it moves in the usual dimensions to be a full-size keyboard. The keyboard works with a 1.8 meter braided USB cable and ends in a gold plated USB connector.
This keyboard features semi-mechanical technology, which means that we have buttons that combine the best of mechanical switches and membranes, at least in theory, since it will be necessary to check if they fulfill what was promised. Due to the use of membranes, it is expected that its useful life will be around 10 million keystrokes, clearly behind the mechanical switches, which usually hold more than 50 million keystrokes, but of course, we are talking about a combo that It costs a third of what a mechanical keyboard from a renowned brand like Ozone is worth. An advantage of these push buttons is that they are resistant to liquid splashes.
This keyboard offers us 11 multimedia hotkeys and 26-key N-Key Rollover so that we do not have problems in our favorite games, let's not forget that it is a keyboard intended mainly for the most gamers. Also thinking of gamers we find the gaming function to avoid accidental minimizations while we play. Ozone has implemented an RGB LED lighting system that is controlled by key combinations, it is not one of the best we have seen, but it looks quite good as we will see later.
At the bottom we see the non-slip rubber feet and the legs to lift it slightly.
We now look at the optical mouse, which features a sensor with six modes of operation at 750, 1250, 1750, 2500, 3000, 4000 DPI, which are backlit in red, blue, green, yellow, cyan, and magenta respectively. We will be able to adjust the sensor on the fly thanks to the presence of two dedicated buttons on its upper part. This mouse is based on the Avago A3050 sensor, a low-cost model, but which has proven to be more than enough for many users, not everyone needs the PWM 3360, much more expensive to implement.
A detail that we liked about this mouse is that the two main buttons are made of independent plastic pieces, which helps to improve the response of the keystrokes. The wheel is rubberized so that it does not slip, all a detail.
On the left side we see two additional buttons, which are not programmable because this mouse does not have software. We can use the game control settings to customize them, so it won't be a problem either, after all. The back that features a brand logo that is part of the mouse lighting.
In the lower area we see the sensor along with three Teflon surfers so that it slides perfectly.
This is what the lighting of both products looks like:
Final words and conclusion about Ozone Double Tap
Ozone Double Tap is a keyboard and mouse combo that offers us some very good features for a reasonable price. First we will talk about the keyboard, which we liked a lot. The keyboard design is robust, and it looks like a real mechanical keyboard, this is something we like. Its weight is quite high, so it will not be easy for it to move on the table, a very important point for the most playful.
If we focus on the user experience, we have semi-mechanical CrossTech push buttons that promise to offer the best of both worlds. In our opinion, they are much closer to the membrane push buttons than to the mechanical ones, we have tried other keyboards of this type that give a much more mechanical feel, an example of this is the Ozone Alliance of the brand itself. The feel of these buttons is not bad, but if you are looking for something mechanical, you will not find it. The conclusion at this point is that it is an excellent membrane keyboard, with all the benefits and advantages of this system, but that the mechanic has rather little.
As for the mouse there is no surprise, because the Avago 3050 sensor is already well tested and we know what it is capable of. It is a very good sensor, which is able to work on a multitude of surfaces without problems, and offers great precision. Many low-cost mice are seen with this sensor, and the reason for this is quite simple: it is cheap and works very well. The mouse buttons feel good, are firm, and don't feel like they're going to break soon, so we don't have any complaints here either.
The keyboard lighting is the point that we liked the least, not because it is not very intense, but because it really illuminates the characters on the keys very little. It illuminates the area under the keys much more than the characters, which looks nice, but it is not very functional and should be improved in a new version.
