The guys at OZONE come with news for gamers with their new OZONE DSP24, a very affordable gaming monitor that also implements AMD FreeSync technology and a Full HD resolution at 144 Hz and 1 ms response time. Very high performance for a team specially designed for gaming and eSports. In this review we will see if this monitor meets expectations and gives us a good gaming experience, so let's go there.
First of all, we must thank OZONE for the trust that they have placed in us by transferring this product to us for analysis.
OZONE DSP24 Technical Specifications
Unboxing and design
We always start by unboxing this OZONE DSP24, which comes in a cardboard box with dimensions of 730 x 210 x 420 mm and a total weight of 5.1 Kg, so it will be relatively manageable due to its low weight. This box is fully printed in a greyish, vinyl-look color, with a huge monitor photo up front, as well as some of its main features.
In the back we continue with the trend of a gray background and another photo of the screen along with more of its characteristics, which we will see in more detail below. The OZONE DSP24 is a monitor of about 200 euros that has fully gaming-oriented features, so it can be an excellent option for players who do not want to spend an exorbitant amount of money for a higher resolution monitor.
We open the box and we find the product perfectly arranged in two large molds of expanded polyethylene foam that will give us an extra protection against the typical white cork. In turn, the screen is inserted in a plastic bag with foam lining for better protection.
The rest of the components come inside another cardboard box so that there are no misdeeds before. In total we have:
- The OZONE DSP24 monitor Metal foot to install the monitor 12V power adapter HDMI cable Instruction book
An important detail is that in this case, the monitor support arm is directly installed on it, and consists of a 100 × 100 mm VESA coupling with an adjustable height, rotation and orientation arm.
Well here we have this OZONE DSP24 in all its glory. A 24-inch monitor and screen dimensions of 560x330x200 mm that if we add the corresponding foot we have a package of 560x380x200 mm. The finish of the monitor is entirely in glossy black PVC plastic on its front frames with a 17mm bezel on all four edges.
In general it is a team with enough height, since in its lowest position we will have it about 11 cm from the ground and if we fully extend its arm we will have a package with a maximum height of 500 mm. In addition, we will have the possibility of rotating it 90 degrees to place it in vertical reading mode. Something quite useful for many amateur users.
The final appearance of the product is quite good, although we have already said that plastic abounds wherever we look, but it is quite common in most monitors. Its bezels are quite smooth and narrow, with all their edges chamfered at 45 degrees. And the rounded corners.
In the lower central area we have the brand logo and just to its right the corresponding indications to carry out the control through the OSD menu. We don't have stickers of any kind, so the finish is very clean.
If we turn this monitor over, we will have the entire support structure that is already incorporated at the factory. The only thing we will need to mount is the support bracket. In the image we clearly appreciate that the system for fixing the arm to the screen consists of a VESA 100x100mm screwed mount.
Although we also appreciate that it has another adapter for another type of support in its lower central edge. For this purpose, we do not have any type of adapter available in the accessory box to carry out this type of installation.
As for the ventilation of electronic components, the monitor has a grid in the central area as we can see. It is a passive equipment, like almost in most cases in this type of monitors, so we will not have any type of background noise.
The support arm of this OZONE DSP24 is hydraulic, so we only have to push up and down to move it and it will stay fixed where we want. The range of movement is very wide, because it can be placed vertically for reading. It has decorative elements in red both at the base and in the upper area and a cable router in the middle area of the arm.
The floor supports are quite wide in a 120-degree V shape with a PVC finish and metal interior with a 3-bolt clamping system and a lower clamp. In addition to allowing vertical movement, we can also rotate it up to 45 degrees from left to right and 20 degrees back and 5 degrees forward.
This attachment of the monitor to the arm is not too robust, so on thin tables we will notice the screen swaying when typing or taking sudden actions.
As for the connectivity of this monitor, it has a DisplayPort input necessary to have the use of AMD FreeSync active and another HDMI output. In addition, we have a 3.5mm Jack connector for headphone output and the power connector. On the right side we only find the product label and an access for universal padlocks.
The monitor does not have speakers of any kind, despite the fact that we see in the photos two typical openings for them. We say this in case anyone falls into that kind of confusion.
As for the performance of its screen, which is undoubtedly what interests us most, this OZONE DSP24 has a maximum resolution of Full HD at 1920 × 1080 pixels and 24 inches diagonal in aspect ratio 16: 9 and a LED panel TN type.
This panel has a contrast of 50, 000, 000: 1, with a brightness of 250 nits and a pixel size of 0.277 mm capable of representing up to 16.7 million colors.
In addition, we have a vertical refresh rate of no less than 144 Hz adjustable by software, which will provide us with an image without tearing, a response time of 1 ms and AMD FreeSync technology to provide us with dynamic adaptation of frequency, something that until recently It was only available for high-end, high-cost monitors. Of course to use AMD FreeSync, we will need to connect the monitor through DisplayPort, in HDMI it will not work.
As for users who have an Nvidia card on their computer and plan to buy a FreeSync monitor like this, from now on they will not have any problems, since Nvidia has already implemented the compatibility of its G-Sync technology with FreeSync for this type of monitors. Starting with the driver version 417.71, we can manually activate this compatibility from the Nvidia menu for the entire range of Nvidia GTX 1000 and RTX 2000 graphics cards.
The viewing angles of this monitor are 170 horizontally and 160 degrees vertically. Although it is true that in the vertical it looks quite good and with a stable color, in the horizontal we have more problems, obtaining a rather significant darkening when we exceed approximately 130 degrees. This can be seen in the images.
As for bleeding, we have detected practically nothing, the lighting is totally uniform throughout the entire panel and we do not see light leaks in any part of the frame.
OSD panel and user experience
To carry out the interaction with the OSD panel of the OZONE DSP24, we have four buttons located on the right side of the monitor next to a fifth one that performs the on and off functions. Its operation is quite simple, menu button to open, close and select menus, +/- buttons to navigate through them, and Auto button as an escape function.
The menu has nothing special, it is more or less the standard of the monitors in this range. It has 6 different sections in which we can change the parameters of color, contrast brightness, image position, OSD position, headphone output volume and input signal.
The most relevant of this will be the FreeSync technology activation option, and the simulated HDR function which is not too useful because the result is not exactly optimal.
Entering the experience of using this OZONE DSP24, an interesting thing that we find in addition to the OSD menu is the possibility of activating a sniper sight for Shooter games, which we can customize in color.
Well, we can divide the user experience into three sections in which we will briefly comment on what we found.
Games: In the games section, which is what this monitor is designed for, the experience has been extremely good. The great contrast, brightness and range of colors provide us with a vivid and very pleasant image. We've used it with Far Cry 5 and we really liked its 144Hz performance, highly detailed landscape scanning, and the bang visuals are great, and we don't recommend HDR functionality. What we must say is that reaching a balance between light and dark environments is a bit complicated, since the balance of this monitor is a bit extreme and translates into exteriors with lots of light, and very dark interiors.
Movies and multimedia content: In this aspect it is also a pretty good monitor, since the commented features in games are also extensible to this area. The good pixel density and high resolution will give us good times with our friends or partner. I insist again on the balance between light and dark tones, it is somewhat pronounced, but with a good adjustment we get a good result.
Graphic design and office automation: in this last point, we do not consider it to be the best option, the TN panel generates quite vivid and saturated colors that will not be too realistic in terms of these works. Its intense brightness and contrast also tire the eyes when we have been reading or writing for some time, at least in my personal case. This will depend on each one of course.
Final words and conclusion about OZONE DSP24
OZONE DSP24 is one of the gaming monitors with the best quality / price ratio. It is very difficult to find another monitor with these benefits for just over 200 euros. Good finishes, despite abundant plastic and its great versatility to move and position it, make it a very good level of equipment.
To this we must add its 24-inch screen with those 144 Hz at Full HD resolution and AMD FreeSync technology that will give us a gaming experience that until not long ago was only reserved for monitors at a much higher cost. The image quality is very good and the gaming experience has been outstanding in both response and color. For gamers who want a good 1920x1080p gaming experience this is possibly the best option out there on the market right now.
We also recommend the best monitors on the market
Although it is true that if we want a versatile team to work in design and office automation at the same time as playing, it does not fit too well, since if the TN panel gives us quite saturated colors and a high contrast that will tire our eyes quite easily.
We also miss that these 144 Hz is natively implemented, although we can easily activate it from the options of our graphics card. Otherwise the default setting will be 1080p at 60Hz.
We will have this OZONE DSP24 available for a price of 210 euros, which is extremely affordable if we want a monitor prepared for eSport. For our part, it has left us quite happy, and we recommend it for use in games of any kind. At this point, do you think a 4K monitor is worth playing? Do you think this monitor would fit your needs?
