Ozone returns to the fray to seduce us with the new Ozone StrikeBack, mechanical RGB gaming keyboard, and I must tell you… It has done it! We describe our impressions after being using it for several days in a row.

Ozone is a brand made in Spain . Its production is specialized in everything that has to do with gaming: headphones, screens, laptops, mice and (of course) keyboards.

Unboxing and design

The Ozone keyboard is presented in a matte cardboard box with a shiny effect on some elements such as the keyboard, Spectra RGB seal, brand logo and product model. On its front spine we find the following highlights:

  • Mechanical keyboard with high quality switches. Conflict-free six-key anti-ghosting Rear RGB backlit switches with 16.8 million colors Gaming Mode - Disables the Windows button.

On the sides we find the Ozone logo and the name of the product, both shiny. Finally, in the back area we find the model and brand again along with a brief description in six languages along with the Ozone website to visit in case you need more information.

"Mechanical keyboard with quality switches, RGB backlight, macros, anti-ghosting, multimedia keys, WASD function, software-free configuration and gaming mode for a personalized style of play."

Once we opened the box we found the keyboard wrapped in a white packaging padded sleeve. The braided cable is hidden in a cardboard formwork and below the keyboard we have the accompanying manual.

The total content of the box is summarized in:

Ozone StrikeBack design

We are facing a complete mechanical keyboard with a total of 104 switches, 105 if we count the wheel for the volume that we can see in the upper right corner on the numeric keyboard. Apart from it, it does not have other dedicated multimedia buttons, but its functions are associated with the Fn switches.

With dimensions of 450 x 147 x 35 mm and a weight of 1170 g, the Ozone StrikeBack is a keyboard with a black matte plastic finish.

It also has folding risers on its back to accommodate the angle to a second less horizontal position. These risers offer an optional second height and feature non-slip rubber to ensure grip on almost any surface.

On the back side of the keyboard, in addition to the risers, we find two more rubber supports and information about the model, serial number and quality certificates.

Kailh Red Switches

The type of switches used in Ozone StrikeBack are Kailh Red. This type of switch is linear travel and are the most popular for gaming. It is true that the most seasoned may notice the difference compared to a Cherry MX switch, but we have been using this keyboard while writing this review coming from some Outemu switches and we can tell you that the difference is noticeable. The tour is comfortable and short, we can notice the moment we reached the bottom.

Another plus point is the presence of anti-ghosting. The N-KEY that the keys have will be the relief of the most frenetic players and the fastest writers, we have not found a single incident in this regard.

All switches are double molded character to make them clearly visible with RGB lighting. We also tell you that the readability of the same even without the active backlight is very good given that they have a large and wide typography that personally has been very comfortable for us. This in turn has a second beneficial effect and that is that the greater the characters, the greater the backlit area. Fans of little lights like me will be delighted.

The wire

The cable length is 1.8m and terminates in a gold plated USB 2.0 port. Other data to be appreciated is that it is braided in fiber and can be removed from the keyboard for better transport. The socket on it is nano USB and is located just in the central back area of the keyboard. It should be noted that its exit point cannot be deviated towards one of the sides by means of an internal groove or guide.

Using the Ozone StrikeBack keyboard

Once we connect the keyboard, just a couple of seconds later the RGB lighting is activated with a light sequence and from there it lights up with the first default mode. Being Plug and Play we can forget to install those kinds of extras that for many are just one more program that accumulates at system startup or during use. Personally we are on this side, so all the configurations that can be done ' on the fly' are welcome.

This is a keyboard that does not need software or drivers to function properly, although that does not mean that we cannot download it from the Ozone StrikeBack Official Website. For practical purposes, details to make life easier we have the volume control wheel and a gaming mode that blocks the Windows key.

Now , what can the Ozone StrikeBack software do? As it turns out, it provides interesting little things that most likely we would not know how to configure without it. In addition to the traditional lighting and macro configurations, we can highlight two aspects:

  • USB refresh rate: 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz and 1000Hz selectable. Obviously the higher the better. Assignment of functions to buttons as if they were multimedia for functions such as Play, Stop, email or browser home page.

Spectra RGB lighting

This is where the party begins. We love little lights, and when they are bright and the number of possible settings they have, better than better. It turns out that we found nothing more and nothing less than a total of 18 possible backlight combinations on the keys and also a beautiful RGB lower band that surrounds the entire keyboard with a soft and cyclical pulse. These lighting modes can be customized both on the fly and with the software as mentioned above. Its speed, color pattern and brightness intensity are some of its options.

In turn, the lower lighting band is also configurable on the fly with a total of 12 options in addition to being able to turn off. It all depends on your level of personal preference with the disco line: P.

Final words and conclusions on the Ozone StrikeBack keyboard

The keyboard is visually spectacular. From the readability of its characters, the volume wheel or RGB rear band give it an exceptional presence. Its braided cable gives us peace of mind regarding jerks and the possibility of being able to extract it if we are going to take it with us to another place is an aspect to be positively valued.

We would have liked the frame to have been made of steel or not all the finishes were made of plastic, but this still does not mean that the keyboard has left us with the feeling of being cheap or of low quality. The contact of its switches is very fast and they respond very well, after all Kailh is still one of the most popular brands.

We recommend reading the best keyboards on the market

In summary: we can have a gaming keyboard for about 90 euros that does not need installed software to maintain the patterns or macros that we have programmed and it is also a national product. With StrikeBack Ozone it shows us once again that we do not need to go to the big brands to look for quality.
