Peppermint is a distro based on Ubuntu that is currently at version number 6, which in turn is developed under the designs of Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS. With Peppermint 7 an important step is going to be taken when using the new Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Long Term Support), with all the advantages that this entails.

Peppermint 7 will use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Peppermint is an elegant and lightweight design distro that stands out for using only the Ubuntu versions that enter the LTS stage, very similar to Elementary OS, which has some interesting advantages, such as having official support for several years but it can also happen that there are some programs that stop working during the two years that pass between the LTS versions that are published.

Currently Peppermint 7 is in a state of "Pre-Beta" which can only be accessed by members of a closed group but on June 30, as anticipated from the official Google+ account, a preliminary version will be released for the entire audience with which we can test the news of Peppermint 7.

The developers have clarified that those who have Peppermint 6 installed on their computers will not be able to upgrade to Peppermint 7, an installation from 0 must be done with UEFI 64-bit computers, it will only be available initially for this type of computer and not for those of 32-bits and that do not have UEFI.
