Amd b550 motherboard: the first picture shown with the real b550 chipset

It seems that AMD is finally taking the next real step in updating its B550 platform for those who can't afford an X570 chipset board. And it is that what appears to be the first image of a real AMD B550 board has been leaked, nothing of the B550A that is ultimately a “doped B450”.

B550 chipset on a Chinese SOYO board

Until now, AMD has not taken the step to release the new chipset for mid-range motherboards on the manufacturer's consumer and gaming platform. And it seems that progress is seen in Chinese manufacturers.

Instead it had made an update to the B450 chipset mounted on current boards with just the added function of supporting the PCIe 4.0 interface in the main x16 slot, i.e. the one we use for graphics cards. This new version that continues to maintain the same PCIe lanes has been renamed the B550A or B450X. This chipset has only seen the light for boards oriented to system integrators and nothing of general consumption. We further quote that the B450 previously supported this standard, but has been restricted by an AGESA update from AMD.

But the AMD B550 chipset will not be a mere update, but a new chipset that works entirely in PCIe 4.0 for all lanes and communication with the CPU. The specifications of this new chipset are not yet confirmed beyond the support for PCIe 4.0 as we say, although it must support 2 USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, at least 4 + 4 SATA3 ports.

The image we see is that of this alleged real AMD B550 motherboard provided by a source in SOYO (a company that operates after China Maxsun) to the Videocardz medium. This is, as we can see, a board in Micro ATX format that, due to its general appearance, should be clearly placed in the input range as it only has two DDR DIMM slots, 4 SATA3 and a total of 3 PCIe slots, two of them in size x16 red and another PCIe x1. Along with them an M.2 slot of which we do not know if it will also be PCIe 4.0.

It is striking that it has a VGA port on its rear panel, as well as a VRM of only 4 + 2 phases of power. Everything we see is consistent, as is the 4 + 4-pin power plug for the CPU. The PCB is brown in color with an "original" screen-printed dragon at the bottom of the PCB that occupies it in its entirety.

Up to here the information of this sighting arrives, so we will remain pending in case new models appear closer to us and that they intuit a possible launch soon.
