Plextor today announced the launch of a new series of M8V SSDs, which have been designed to offer users the best possible ratio of performance to cost, these will be available in M.2 and 2.5-inch versions.

Plextor M8V features

The new Plextor M8V are offered in 2.5-inch and M.2-2280 formats, in both cases with a SATA III 6 Gb / s interface to be able to offer a product as economically as possible but with a good speed for all types of chores. Inside they combine the use of the new 64-layer BiCS TLC NAND memory technology and a Silicon Motion SM2258 controller. Plextor offers them in 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB versions to fit the needs and possibilities of all users.

With these characteristics, the Plextor M8V are capable of reaching a sequential read speed of 520 MB / s while the write remains at 510 MB / s, they are not the fastest SATA III disks on the market but the difference is very small, since The limit of this interface is 560 MB / s, so there should be little difference in actual use. The random performance reaches 82, 000 IOPS in reading while in writing it is at 81, 000 IOPS, so they are also at an excellent level in this regard. Its durability is estimated at 70TBW, 140TBW and 280TBW for the 128GB, 256GB and 512GB versions respectively. They all come with a 3 year warranty.

SSD drives with TLC vs MLC memories

The use of TLC memory allows Plextor to offer a product with a more attractive sale price, at least on paper since the cost of these units has not been mentioned. The bad thing is that the durability is lower than the disks with MLC memory and in practice the price difference is usually very small.
