Table of contents:

Anonim

Pocophone F1 is the fashionable smartphone at present, it is a terminal that comes with characteristics that place it in the high range, but with a price that can be considered mid-range. Inside we find the Snapdragon 845 processor, the most powerful that is currently available for Android, something that is already a declaration of intent of the Chinese brand.

This product has been purchased for analysis. We wanted to offer you a different point than the current means of communication for mobile telephony. Let's start!

Pocophone F1 technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The Pocophone F1 comes in a robust but simple box, which guarantees the best possible protection so that it reaches the hands of the end user in perfect condition. Prevailing the corporate black and yellow color of the new Xiaomi division

Once we open the box, we see the terminal covered by a plastic bag and accommodated in a piece of cardboard so that it does not move, next to it we highlight the presence of the user guide, the warranty card, a black silicone case, the 5V / 3A charger, a USB-C cable and the clip to open the trays.

It is a smartphone that reaches measures of 1 55.5 x 75.3 x 8.8 mm and a weight of 182 grams, its design is quite modern, although we highlight that it is made of plastic and not aluminum. The latter has clearly been a measure to reduce its manufacturing cost and be able to sell it cheaper. The advantage of plastic is that it does not slip on the hand and the marks are not marked, so it can be good or bad depending on how you look at it.

We liked that Pocophone includes a plastic gel case. Although it is not excessively good, for the first months it serves us well.

IPS screen that complies, but not at all PREMIUM

The terminal mounts a large screen with IPS technology and a size of 6.18 inches with Full HD plus resolution, which translates to 2, 246 x 1, 080 pixels and a density of 403 PPI. The presence of the notch also stands out, something that is increasingly common and is hated by many users, although being so wide we cannot see the notifications.

The bezel of the screen is quite small, although not as much as we are used to seeing at the top of the range. This bezel has a chrome touch, which looks quite good, although it does not hide it in the best possible way.

We continue to see the characteristics of this screen with a maximum brightness of 500 nits, a contrast of 1500: 1 and an NTSC color range of 84%. The screen does not seem anything bad on paper, although once again we are below what is usually seen in the best terminals on the market. This screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, a laminate with some years behind it, but which still represents a good way of life.

According to our tests, at no time have we seen any light leak or bleeding in our terminal. Many users have complained, but in our case, we have not had any problems with our purchased terminal.

Finally, in the upper left corner of the terminal is where the tray for two nano-SIM cards is hidden , one of them also shares space with a possible micro-SD card of up to 256 GB, so we will have to choose between two SIMs or a SIM and a memory card.

Sound

The Pocophone F1 complies perfectly complies in the sound section. Being a high-end "low cost" terminal. It is clear, strong and quite clear. Although it is a cheap terminal, in this aspect it does not fail like the famous OnePlus 6, it can be a differential factor when buying it. We also liked that it incorporates a minijack plug to connect wired helmets.

performance

As for the hardware, this Pocophone F1 mounts the advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, in this sense there is nothing to object, because today no Android terminal can offer a more powerful processor than this.

This processor offers 8 Kryo 385 cores at a speed of 2.80 GHz and Adreno 630 graphics. The processor is accompanied by 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and 64/128 GB of internal storage depending on the version. These specifications make it a top-of-the-range terminal, having nothing to envy to models that cost three times more expensive.

In Spain, only the 6 GB version of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory will be marketed.

Xiaomi does not want overheating problems, so the processor is cooled by a copper heatpipe, something that is increasingly common in top-of-the-range terminals that come with very powerful processors.

As we always say, benchmarks are of little use to assess whether a smartphone is worth it or not, although they do give us an estimate of what it can offer compared to the competition. With AnTuTu we have managed to reach 261775 points. Where it shows that the Snapdragon 845 that it incorporates and its 6 GB of RAM memory are enough to live up to any high-end that costs double or triple it.

Camera that surprises, but does not fall in love

As for the optics, we find a main camera that consists of two sensors, a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 with f / 1.9 and a 5-megapixel Samsung S5K5E8 with f / 2.1. Both sensors will work together to improve the quality of the snapshots, as well as being supported by Dual Pixel Autofocus technology with AI capabilities.

Regarding the front camera, it has a 20 megapixel sensor that also relies on AI technology to improve photos. It has a portrait mode that blurs the background correctly by software.

We have seen and read a lot on social networks that it resembled the camera of the Pixel 2 XL and the like. And, although we have not tested it, it is not at the same level as the super mega high-end on the market, or at least we have not known how to get the most out of it. But, in my case it would be more than enough for both events and my daily use. That is, a phone that costs me little, that works very well and that takes good photos. What do I want more?

MIUI operating system with Poco launcher

We now turn to the operating system, the Pocophone F1 comes with MIUI 9 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The design of the system is the usual one, with the exception that this time we find the Poco Launcher, which gives it an aesthetic very similar to that of Android stock in this regard.

I personally like this launcher a lot and how it works. Since I am used to the Android One / Android Stock interface it seems like a total success. When I have been testing the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE (we will launch the review soon) it took me a while to get back to MIUI.

We found all the usual MIUI functions, including gesture control and the possibility of using two user profiles per application. This Xiaomi promises the update to MIUI 10 to make this terminal even better.

Battery and connectivity

Its 4000 mAh and the efficiency of a processor like the Snapdragon 845 allows us to have 8 hours of screen average. When it usually lasts 5 hours or 5 and a half hours , this terminal has left me the best feeling in autonomy. I can go two days without loading the terminal without any problem. It may not be as efficient as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, but being backed by such a long-lasting battery and breathing easy on every trip is a treat.

At the connectivity level, it has the WiFi 802.11 AC dual-band connection and Bluetooth 5.0 compatible with AAC, aptX, aptX-HD codecs. The only great absence is the NFC, something that is usually common in cheap terminals. It also does not lack GPS technology, so we will have an excellent browser for our trips. We highlight that Xiaomi has included all the necessary bands for the best performance in Spain, including the 800 MHz band for 4G.

Final words and conclusion about Pocophone F1

At the performance level we can not complain about the Pocophone F1. The Snapdragon 845 processor, its 6 gb of LPDDR4X RAM, Adreno 630 graphics card, UFS 2.1 storage, the possibility of mounting a DUAL SIM or SIM + SD and its PocoPhone launcher offers us the best of the best at a contained price.

The battery is undoubtedly one of its strengths. The 8 hours on average that I have been using my smartphone for almost a month, seems extraordinary to me. Giving me a breath of air every time I go on a business trip or during my day to day? 4G coverage is good, Wi-Fi is better and GPS works great.

We recommend you read the best high-end smartphones

What did I not like? That it does not incorporate NFC at the moment seems to me a small step back. Also… that the notifications disappear because of the notch and that the cover that it incorporates in less than a month has expired without further ado. Yes, it was a gift, but it bothers me.

The Pocophone F1 reaches the market for a price of 329 euros for the most basic model. In the official Xiaomi store and in the main stores we will find it available. We also have the version with 128 GB of internal memory for 399 euros. We believe that it is a highly recommended option and that with this terminal we reject the option of buying a Xiaomi Mi 8 or One Plus 6. What do you think? Does it seem as interesting to you as it does to us or do you find it harder?
