AMD is about to put its second-generation Ryzen processors on the market, based on Pinnacle Ridge silicon made at 12nm. Everything indicates that the Ryzen 7 2700X will be the new top of the range, with a supposed Ryzen 7 2800X that would not arrive for now.

Ryzen 7 2800X will not hit the market for now

The Ryzen 7 2700X processor will offer an eight-core configuration and sixteen processing threads, at a base frequency of 3.7 GHz, and a maximum turbo frequency of 4.35 GHz. These data will make it a faster processor than the Ryzen 7 1800X, which reaches a maximum frequency of 4.2 GHz under XFR technology.

AMD has had the advantage of seeing what the Core i7 8700K is capable of, so it knows what it needs to be able to beat the Intel processor. The Ryzen 7 2800X would be a bullet stored in the chamber, in case it is needed before the arrival on the market of a possible Core i7 8720K, all assuming that the 2700X is better than Intel's star processor, and that AMD has actually been able to manufacture an even better processor.

For now AMD will only launch the Ryzen 7 2700X, Ryzen 7 2700, Ryzen 5 2600X and Ryzen 5 2600, it will be joined by the Raven Ridge APUs, so there is no point in launching new processors with only four cores and without integrated graphics. Pinnacle Ridge is expected to include a small improvement in the IPC compared to the first generation based on Summit Ridge, this improvement would be due to a cache with lower latency, new Precision Boost algorithms and XFR 2.0.
