First benchmark of amd raven ridge, comparable to the core i5 6600
Table of contents:
Raven Ridge is AMD's next generation of Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) that will arrive combining powerful Zen cores and advanced Vega graphics to deliver a highly competitive integrated solution for the bulk of users. While we wait, a first Raven Ridge benchmark has already been leaked that can give us an idea of its performance.
Raven Ridge gives a first hint of its potential
Raven Ridge will arrive with a configuration of a complex CCX together with an integrated GPU with Vega architecture, with this we will have a total of 4 cores and 8 CPU threads along with some quite capable graphics that could be powered by HBM memory to avoid the neck of bottle caused by bandwidth of DDR4 RAM. With this we have that the CPU part of Raven Ridge will be very similar to the Ryzen processors with 4 cores and 8 threads, logically there may be differences in operating frequencies due to the presence of the integrated graphics in the APUs and its absence in the Ryzen.
A sample of Raven Ridge engineering has been passed through Fritz Chess Benchmark V4.2 to give a score of 11, 000 points, which places it on par with the Intel Core i5 6600 based on the Skylake microarchitecture and at a frequency of 3.3 GHz. Unfortunately nothing is mentioned about the operating frequency of the Raven Ridge processor so it is very difficult to evaluate its performance looking only at the number of cores. Remember that this is a preliminary sample so the final version will surely be more powerful.
APUs based on AMD Zen will arrive in the second half of the year
The new Zhaoxin processors have also appeared in the test, these are the result of a collaboration between Zhaoxin and VIA to create new x86 processors attractive to China, they are not expected to go outside the borders of the Asian country.
