There are certain laptop processors that should never be purchased because they become obsolete prematurely. Inside, we tell you which ones.

Buying a laptop is not easy for some, and there are many models and many different processors. You may know about computing, but the notebook market works differently than the desktop market. Our goal is to illustrate with laptop processors that you never have to buy.

Define your needs

When we talk about " the best laptop processors " or " which laptop to choose, " we always start by talking about your needs. It would be useless to tell you "these 5 processors are not worth anything" because they could be useful for other people.

However, most people want the laptop to be able to do something specific: play video games, render, multi-task, office automation, etc. Therefore, the first thing you should do is define your needs and discard the processors that do not cover them.

Once this is done, it is possible that the laptop you need is more expensive than you had proposed. Personally, I always say the same thing: save because you will regret it. If it costs 100 or 200 euros more than estimated, save and buy the laptop that really meets your needs.

Laptop processors that are not very advisable

Already involved in the technical part, we are going to show you the processors that we do not usually recommend and explain the reasons that lead us to do so. So, below you will find the processors that we do not recommend.

Previous Generation Processors

It is true that many people can use an older processor in exchange for a more attractive price, but with laptops we must take some care in this regard because we cannot change the processor we want, but we will buy the equipment with that processor and will die with it.

We do not advise processors of previous generations because they become obsolete earlier. Yes, you can be very careful and keep them from the first day, but if you buy a 2017 processor, in 2021 the processor will be 4 years behind them. In addition, we will enjoy 2017 technology, when technology advances very quickly in just 2 years.

It may be that you have a computer with a processor from years ago, but it will be a computer that will be practically obsolete when we take it out of the box.

If you want to locate the generation or the year of the processor, it is very simple.

  • Copy the model of the processor, for example, Intel Pentium 4415Y. Paste the name in Google and search. In the first result we will find the Intel page. Here will be its technical file, which shows the year of launch.

That said, buying a laptop that comes with a chip from previous generations does not have to be fatal. The problem with this is DDR4 RAM, a technology that has been with us for a while. Therefore, buying a computer with DDR3 is a bad idea, especially when we want to expand memory.

In the case of Intel, we can see laptops with 8th generation Core i5 and i7 chips very well priced because the stores want to remove stock. In my opinion, it does not seem like a bad purchase, but it is true that the ideal would be to buy an i5-10210U or an i7-10510U, for example.

Intel Pentium 4415Y, Pentium N5000 and Celeron

They are very basic laptop processors and they limit the user a lot. Being so basic, the laptops powered by them will be very cheap, which makes them attractive to a certain audience. Be careful because cheap is expensive.

Both processors came out in 2017 and their performance is very low, limiting us the possibilities in the future. Yes, today we buy a limited laptop. What will it be like in 4 years? When we are looking for a team we must look to the future and think about the useful life it can give us.

Over time, notebook performance decreases. What do you think will happen to notebooks that have poor startup performance?

The Intel Celerons have been with us for many years. In my opinion, they are not suitable processors because their performance is poor. I had one of them and I regret it because at 3 years old I was going very slow. Yes, with a good SSD you can improve, but it is not that type of equipment in which it is worth investing more money because the performance is still low.

If you want a cheap laptop, you don't have to go to these two processors. You can find laptops with the Ryzen 3 3200U that do not exceed 300 € and that can work offering a maximum frequency of 3.5 GHz.

In the event that you like Intel more, you have Intel Core i3 chips that slightly exceed 300 €, but that are still a good purchase option compared to the Pentiums.

AMD A9-9425 and A10-9620P

Both chips are the basic options for the laptop market that AMD offers. They are 2016 and 2017 processors, so they are not recommended following what we have said before. Also, the equipment powered by them does not seem to be cheaper, so it does not seem like a good purchase.

Without leaving the line of the post, they are outdated processors that provide low performance, not being versatile in the future. In fact, you will find very few laptops that are powered by these 2 AMDs because, as I said before, there are better options for consumers.

I tell you again that much better a Ryzen 3 or even an older Ryzen 5, such as the Ryzen 5 2500U, a processor light years from these two.

If you do not like AMD, you can go to an Intel Core i3-8145U, which also works great and we find Acer laptop models powered by it and for less than € 400.

We hope this information has helped you to discard possible laptops that you had on your wish list. If you have any questions, do not hesitate and put it below.
