Speed up your Windows 10 startup
When you install an application, it may use routines to find updates or some threads that are automatically activated to start at the same time as the operating system.
Greater amount of these implies greater use of the resources of the PC, Hard disk, CPU and memory. Starting an operating system involves the use of many resources and more if you have to start extra applications.
If we have our system installed on a solid hard disk or SSD and our hardware is fairly good, perhaps we don't notice big differences in the startup process. This is because an SSD hard drive is much faster than a normal one. And the first reason is that they have no mechanical components inside, unlike normal hard drives. The mechanical elements are a great bottleneck.
In short, if your operating system is installed on a mechanical hard drive, this tutorial interests you a lot, because you will surely notice big differences.
Remove Windows 10 startup programs
In general, we have two simple ways to eliminate these Windows 10 startup programs: Through the task manager and from the configuration panel.
In previous operating systems this task was slightly more complicated. We had to run the command "msconfig" in order to make these types of changes in the system. This option is still available, but accessing it, we will not get anything, since it redirects us to the task manager.
Remove Windows 10 startup programs with Settings Panel
The first option that we have is accessing the Windows 10 configuration panel. To do this, we go to the start menu and click on the gear icon.
Next, I will access the "Applications" option and within this we will click on the "start" option that appears in the list on the left. Here we will be shown a list of programs that are configured to start with Windows.
We are going to analyze the information that is shown in this list of Windows 10 startup programs.
Applications
The first thing we see is the name of the specific application, its icon and just below its manufacturer. This is very important to know where these applications come from. Many times when we download a program from a page, it provides us with an installer for it, which will also possibly contain advertising. In addition to this, it is possible that you will install applications without realizing it.
You should pay close attention to this when you install a program. For example, in the image above we were trying to install Ares. The photo of this happy couple and the Avast ad appeared in the installation wizard. If you look below, a marked tic appears, this means that as we click on the following without deactivating it, Avast will install us on our computer. Take a good look and you will avoid installing applications that you don't want.
Continuing with what we were going, to know which applications are legit and which ones this list is a good place. In principle we could directly deactivate them all, although some are necessary for our system to start correctly without skipping errors or warnings.
We recommend looking at the network for applications that you do not know to know if they are necessary, good or bad. In this way we can safely disable them.
Resource consumption and activation / deactivation
The next thing that is shown to the left side of each application is the on / off button and just below some definitions that we have to know:
- Low Impact: That application consumes few resources at startup. High Impact: deactivating that application your team will start faster for sure. (some are not recommended to be disabled, such as video, audio, etc. drivers) Not measured: if this application is disabled and has never been active, the system does not know its actual consumption.
To deactivate a Windows 10 startup program is as simple as pressing the button. It will not be necessary to accept anything or apply changes. All of this will be done automatically. Now restart your computer and see if its startup has improved. Better wait and read on.
Remove Windows 10 startup programs with Task Manager
To access the task manager we have a few options choose the one you like the most:
- Pressing the "Ctrl + Shift + Esc" keys : we will open the task manager directly by pressing the "Crtl + Alt + Del" keys and then choosing the task manager option.
- Right-clicking on the taskbar and choosing task manager.
In any case, a window like this will open. To make it bigger click on "More details". Then choose the "start" tab , and a list very similar to the previous method will appear.
What's more, it is identical but ordered by columns. To enable or disable a program to start, select one from the list and click on the button in the lower right corner. Or in your case, we right click and we will have this same option.
If you look in the upper right corner there is a marker with the name “BIOS Last Time:” and a value. This value measures the time it takes to start Windows once the BIOS loading has finished. In our case it was 10 seconds. Go like fast and fourious's car!
Let's remove some programs from startup and see if the marker goes down.
It has dropped to 9.4 seconds, it is not too much improvement, but there was no longer too much margin with the available features. If you have a mechanical hard drive you will surely notice the difference more.
Removing startup programs Windows 10 is a good way to optimize your computer and also detect intrusive programs that you have installed without realizing it. All of this is worth checking out.
