PS4 can now run Linux thanks to fail0verflow

It only took a few months for the fail0verflow group to run a Linux- based system on a PS4. The group has shown a Sony console unit running Gentoo (Linux 4.4) and the Xfce desktop at the 32nd Chaos Communication Congress. Finally , the tools have been released so that all users can run Linux on their PS4.

It's worth noting that with the released kexec loader and kernel (and an exploit) you should be able to replicate our 32c3 demo.

A piece of news that should not surprise us, since the current PS4 and Xbox One consoles share hardware with the PC, making it much easier than ever to run an x86 operating system on them. Recall that both are based on an AMD 8-core Jaguar / Puma CPU and a GPU with AMD GCN architecture. The next question is , will we ever see Windows running on a PS4?

In the past, Sony has already flirted with Linux on the first PS3 units, which could run a distribution of the Tux operating system, a feature that was removed after a few years.
