QNAP® Systems, Inc. is an active participant in IoT, and today it has officially launched its innovative IoT cloud computing platform - QIoT Suite Lite - which employs secure computing and private storage provided by QNAP NAS by facilitating IoT solutions in the hybrid cloud to maximize the benefits of private and public clouds. The QIoT service strategy focuses more on collaborating with system integrators, helping organizations capture the maximum digital value for greater IoT business potential.
QNAP's QIoT Suite Lite enables hybrid cloud solutions for IoT and successfully practices smart farming in Taiwan
Teddy Kuo, President of QNAP, stated: “Our vision for QIoT is for industries, academics and manufacturers to explore the values of IoT big data and help them increase efficiency and quality in professional and personal environments, enabling people enjoy safe and profitable IoT with minimal financial investment. ”
Since 2017, QNAP has partnered with Webduino to implement a QIoT solution for the Taoyuan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station in Taiwan. Analytical suggestions for agricultural crop scheduling and remote monitoring are easier, providing advanced methods for agricultural operations and management. While QIoT Suite Lite collects and stores on-site data (eg, humidity, temperature, pH levels) from smart sensors, farmers can remotely receive real-time information using computers and mobile devices, allowing them to react to changes instantly and save the time and labor required to verify conditions on-site. QIoT powers agricultural IoT applications to help farmers solve problems and improve management along with relatively affordable implementation and lower skill requirements.
QIoT Suite Lite has a flexible architecture and integrates multiple third-party services. For example, it supports (but is not limited to) development boards and starter kits including Arduino Yun, Raspberry Pi® and Intel® Edison to facilitate implementation; Shares via API to stream data collected from device and stored on QNAP NAS to other dashboards like Microsoft® Power BI for further data analysis and management flexibility; QNAP NAS-specific models support AWS Greengrass to take advantage of Amazon® cloud computing. Combining joint benefits of private and public clouds, QIoT Suite Lite enables greater flexibility in applications to help system integrators approach as diverse IoT use cases as possible with extreme affordability.
QIoT Suite Lite can also address more advanced IOT use cases, such as Fog Computing, where multiple QNAP NAS operate as Fog or Edge nodes in a hierarchical manner that deals with the scale and distribution of control required by Fog Computing.
QIoT solutions have been unveiled in a great presentation during IoT Tech Expo Global 2017 and CeBIT 2017. QNAP is also actively promoting actual IoT practices by sponsoring QNAP Hackathon Challenges for Smart Cities in Secutech Taipei 2017 and a series of QIoT hands-on workshops, in an attempt to Inspire people to put into practice the limitless possibilities of IoT with a QNAP NAS.
