QNAP Launches QIoT Suite Lite (Beta) - QNAP's Private IoT Cloud Solution
QNAP Systems, Inc. today launched the innovative QIoT Suite Lite Beta, QNAP's private IoT cloud platform. Provides software developers and manufacturers with the ability to easily build robust IoT applications on their QNAP NAS, offering a secure, private, local environment. QIoT Suite Lite helps complement IoT solutions based on public cloud, and provides a robust alternative for users who prefer to have a private IoT solution.
"Synonymous with our philosophy 'Thinking big, Aspiring the most', the QIoT Suite Lite is our official entry into the broad world of the Internet of Things, " said Amol Narkhede, QNAP Product Manager, adding "The small and midsize businesses, individual developers, and hobbyists can now build their own IoT projects with the convenient and affordable private cloud-based IoT solution offered by QNAP instead of relying on public cloud services. ”
QIoT Suite Lite comes with three major components that make up an IoT stack: Device Gateway, Rules Engine, and Control Panel. The gateway to the device supports multiple protocols (including MQTT / MQTTS, HTTP / HTTPS and CoAP) for "Things" to connect with QIoT Suite Lite. By using any of these supported protocols, the "Stuff" can push telemetry data generated by various sensors or peripherals to the device's gateway. The rule engine (based on Node-RED) helps process telemetry data and defines the logic of an IoT application. With the help of a modern and intuitive user interface, this can be done with near zero coding. The QIoT control panel provides mini-applications that help monitor and control the IoT solution.
QIoT Suite Lite officially supports (but is not limited to) development boards and starter kits including Arduino Yun, Raspberry Pi, and Intel Edison. QIoT Suite Lite also supports sending telemetry data to third-party control panels such as Microsoft Power BI for additional data analysis.
QIoT Suite Lite can also address more advanced IOT use cases, such as Fog Computing, where multiple QNAP NASs operate as “Fog” or External Nodes in a hierarchical manner that addresses the scale and distribution of control required by the Fog Computing.
Although based on a private cloud infrastructure, the QIoT Suite Lite offers the flexibility to benefit from both private and public clouds. Users can store all their IoT data in the low-cost private cloud of a QNAP NAS before exporting filtered / processed data to premium public clouds for further analysis and to maximize available cloud resources.
