Qnap 2020 techday: highlights
Table of contents:
QNAP has invited us to its Madrid offices to witness the QNAP 2020 Techday. An event focused on professionals in the sector (Networks and NAS devices) and the media that we analyze their main consumer equipment.
During the event they touched on such interesting topics as: cloud storage, fiber channel with SAN in QTS 4.4.1, backups of the office 365 package, backup 3-2-1 in other devices, video surveillance and the Guardian team (firewall + switch) that we already saw exclusively during Computex 2019.
Although many of the sections are focused on the Enterprise sector, we are going to briefly explain some of the services and products designed for the final consumer.

QMiix
This new APP that we can install on any QNAP NAS helps us to connect and create rules with different services from external platforms: Onedrive, Drive, Amazon, etc… in order to automate daily tasks. A good way to save time and improve with IoT applications. It is very similar to IFFTTT, but the expectations and objectives will be better.
Boxafe + HBS 3
During Computex we teach you HBS 3 and all the possibilities it offers us when making backup copies. Remember that this application has QuDedup technology that helps to quickly reduce the time of backup and restoration of files. It also lowers the weight of files in X10.
The big news is the incorporation of Boxafe, which allows us to make more efficient and faster backups with the Google and Office 365 suites.
For example, let's imagine we deleted an email or a file from Drive by mistake 3 months ago… Can it be recovered? Thanks to Boxafe we can have this file again. We find it a very interesting option and we do not rule out making you a manual soon to get the most out of this application.
Switch Guardian QGD-1600P
It seems that QNAP is going to bring this 2-in-1 equipment (Switch + NAS) to the Spanish market, ideal for companies that want to have the maximum possible power in a small rack cabinet.
This switch has 12 Gigabit RJ45 ports with 90W PoE functions in four of them, it also integrates two other SFP ports. Additionally we can expand it with 10 Gigabit connections via PCI Express.
The grace of this switch is that we have a small NAS with a quad-core Intel Celeron J4115 processor with two 3.5-inch bays, so we can install a couple of hard drives and use QTS 4.4.1. Without a doubt, it is an all-terrain product that moves away from the home user to focus more on companies and video surveillance. Its price will be around 700 euros.
QVR Face
Did you know that with your NAS you can mount a free video surveillance system? You need a camera (you can mount up to 8), the QVR Face app and a QNAP NAS to make it work. This application allows the ability to recognize people's faces in real time. This function is ideal for companies that want to control the entry / exit and track their employees without using a physical support.
In a time that it seems that the hardware few news can give us, companies like QNAP are betting on the development of very useful applications and artificial intelligence for home users and companies. At the moment it is still in the BETA phase and there is a bit left to see the final version. But it looks great.
As always, we thank the company for the welcome, kindness and closeness throughout the event.
