Qnap releases its new firmware qts 4.2
QNAP Systems, Inc. today announced the official release of QTS 4.2 - the new version of its smart NAS operating system that enables users to achieve greater productivity in their professional and family lives. With a completely revamped user interface and many amazing new features, the QTS 4.2 provides more security, better multimedia features and multiple utilities for data storage and management in virtualization and cloud environments.
New features and applications in QTS 4.2 include:
- Updated user interface: Incorporates a flat design, frameless multimedia viewer, and convenient recycle bin for a better browsing experience.
- Enhanced multimedia experience: Multi-zone multimedia controls allow users to centrally manage their multimedia files through various streaming protocols / services
The revamped Photo Station with a major user interface overhaul offers a new photo browsing experience and also the HD Station adds more useful applications with multilingual and multi-tasking support such as Chrome, Firefox, Facebook, Skype, and Spotify.
- Optimized storage management and cloud backups: The Storage Manager application adds a useful snapshot tool for volume / LUN backup and restore. Various enhancements have been included to enhance business efficiency and performance, such as SSD Cache Acceleration, QJBOD (JBOD Chassis Roaming), Cloud Sync Support for Google Drive â„¢ and Dropbox, and Copy Solutions more complete security.
- Versatile hybrid approach to virtualization: QTS 4.2 introduces an industry leading hybrid virtualization solution that enables users to run complete operating systems on virtual machines with the Virtualization Station and lightweight virtualization with Container Station which supports both LXC and Docker®.
- Increased data security: Several security mechanisms have been added to ensure data security including 2-step verification, shared folder encryption, immediate notifications to mobile devices, and VPN server with L2TP / IPsec support.
- Enhanced Cloud Connections with File Station and myQNAPcloud: The File Station incorporates remote connections to public cloud services and also to shared folders from a remote NAS. The myQNAPcloud service offers a new control panel for users to centrally manage multiple NAS with stronger security mechanisms, such as myQNAPcloud ID control and SSL certificates (sold separately).
- More productivity- enhancing applications and utilities: Qsirch is a powerful full-text search engine to quickly find files on a QNAP NAS. Qsync enables users to centrally manage user privileges and settings for synchronization from a single device to any other. Q'center (available as an application and virtual device) turns a QNAP NAS (or a server) into a central management system for multiple NAS located in multiple locations. Other practical applications and utilities are available in the QTS App Center.
