Qnap presents: new applications and nas devices
One more year, QNAP invites us to present its latest products and applications of the course. As many of you know, the Taiwanese manufacturer is one of our favorite brands of network storage.
A few days ago we were talking about the most interesting QNAP applications to monitor and manage our NAS from our smartphone.
Among the most prominent applications is the use of QNAP roon, its function is to set up a private music streaming server. A function similar to that offered by Spotify, and which is clearly focused on users who are dedicated to sound (singer, producers or DJ) and want to have their favorite music stored in a safe place.
Another very interesting multimedia application is PLEX, which as many of you know in our analyzes. Now it is compatible with ARM processors, although they are not the most powerful CPUs on the market, they offer very good performance and very low consumption.
Going further on a technical level we find CacheMount very interesting, this application allows us to cache documents, music and tools directly from our NAS to the PC. Also two other super useful tools:
- Notification center to create alerts and events from the QTS itself. This is ideal for unifying all these events in a single application, instead of creating individual "rules". Security Counselor Advisor: A very useful tool that scans our network for serious problems. This comes in handy for those less network savvy users to quickly identify any issues. For example, you have an open port for SSH, and it is the default one. It is always recommended to change port 22 for one more RANDOM, for example, 777. In this way, we prevent bots from the east from constantly attacking our IP and system. SSD Over-proviosining boost: We will see this application in more detail this month. But we make an advance, it allows us to cache the data on the hard disk with an SSD. This implies a higher transfer speed and thus "unclog" the hard drives, which are very slow for these tasks.
QNAP has highlighted the alliance with Artificial Intelligence applications. Among them we find CNTK, TensorFlow, mxnet, Caffe and OpenVIN. We have also found the integration of a Virtual S witch in basic and advanced mode very interesting . An ideal option to manage our virtual machines and computers on our own network.
We have seen very interesting the possibility of installing PfSense as a firewall on our own NAS. Makes sense? Virtualization is the order of the day, and now QNAP provides us with a direct and 100% stable image to get even more out of our team. A detail to take into account is that we will need at least two RJ45 connections to use it on physical equipment.
As outstanding teams we find very interesting, those presented:
- QNAP DAS and expansion TR-004: an ideal device to have a greater number of hard drive bays. Ojito, that this DAS is very good to expand our NAS of 2 or 4 Bays, without the need to acquire new equipment. QNAP TVS-672XT: A NAS with 10 Gbe connectivity, Thunderbolt 3, slots for NVME M.2 PCI Express and focused on small businesses or advanced users looking for the best of the best. In order to take advantage of 10 GBe connectivity in laptops we have been able see the QNA-T410G1T and T310G1s that offers us maximum speed by reusing our Thunderbolt 3 port. In this way, we can have a laptop with the best network on the market. QNAP TS-332X: A more modest NAS that offers the necessary functionalities for 90% of users. Connectivity 10 GBe per fiber, a sober design, a good cooling and with a very good performance. NAS TS-2888X: Intelligence is more present every day and QNAP has recently launched this NAS. Unfortunately, we have not been able to see a sample in person and it would be very interesting to pass performance tests to see how far it can go. Obviously, it is focused on developers or universities.
We thank QNAP Spain for trusting us once again for their annual event. As you know, we are passionate about networks and servers and we enjoy as a young child with new technologies.
