Qualcomm delays the snapdragon 815 to avoid reducing sales of the snapdragon 810
Rumors indicate that Qualcomm is having overheating issues with its Snapdragon 810 which is manufactured using TSMC's 28nm process, a very different situation than the one Samsung is experiencing with its powerful Exynos 7420 thanks to the use of 14nm FinFET of the own South Korean.
We have now learned that Qualcomm is set to delay the arrival of the Snapdragon 815 so as not to hurt sales of the Snapdragon 810. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 815 will arrive manufactured with a 16nm FinFET process from TSMC and will consist of 8 cores in a big.LITTLE configuration that will consist of four Cortex A53 cores and another four Cortex A72 cores in addition to new generation Adreno graphics.
A decision that can cost Qualcomm dearly, let's not forget that Samsung is already capable of manufacturing chips at 14nm FinFET and could take more advantage in terms of the manufacturing process by the time Qualcomm decides to take its Snapdragon 815 out of the closet. Nor should we forget MediaTek, present in most Asian devices and that could also rob Qualcomm's markup quota in the western world
