Windows 10 has many very useful commands to access settings that are not as visible as they should be, either because they are not interested in them or because they understand that they are designed for more advanced users. Today we are going to study in depth the command MSConfig Windows 10 to see what it offers us.
Index of contents
This well-known command has been living on our Windows since Windows 98, so it has already rained a lot. It has been implementing functions and also reducing others, although it is still very useful for carrying out certain tasks. Let's see then what MSConfig offers us.
What is MSConfig for?
Things start at the beginning and this is no exception. MSConfig is a command that, as its name indicates, provides us with system configuration options. It was created to solve problems regarding the Windows startup configuration, for example, enable a restart in safe mode, deactivate or activate certain services and the best known option of all: that of deactivating the Windows startup programs.
The latter is precisely the function suppressed from this comment and redirected to the task manager, in our humble opinion, a success. This way it is more visible.
Otherwise, its main functionality remains to manage the way in which our operating system will start.
How to run MSConfig Windows 10
The execution of this command is very simple and as always, we will have several options available to do it:
Pressing "Start" and typing "MSConfig" will appear in the search engine to run it directly
Another way is to simultaneously press the "Windows + R" keys on the keyboard. This will open the execution window. Next, we write "MSConfig" and press Enter.
In any case, the system configuration option window will appear.
MSConfig Windows 10 options
Let's see what options we have available in MSConfig
general
With this tab we can configure the way Windows starts.
- Normal Startup: Standard boot mode, Windows will load all device drivers installed on the computer. Diagnostic startup : It is a startup mode very similar to the safe mode of Windows if you enter it physically. In this case Windows will load only the basic configuration of the system without taking into account the devices connected to it. This method can correct Windows startup errors. Selective startup : This mode is used to customize the startup mode. We can choose whether we want the system to load the services that are configured in another tab that we will now see. If we want it to also load the programs that are configured at Windows startup. And if we also want the boot configuration to be the original. If we deactivate all the options, the previous option will automatically be activated, which is the boot in diagnostic mode.
If we want a normal and current start, we will activate the first option or we will leave the third, which is the one that comes by default.
start
In this tab we find more advanced Windows startup options in the previous case. In fact, they are options that can really significantly affect the way Windows boots.
The first thing we find is a window at the top with the name of our operating system. if we had more than one installed, from this tab we could choose which operating system to start. This way we would not have to manually configure the startup.
- Advanced options: just below this box or list we find an advanced options button. Through this new four, we can configure the number of processors we want to start, the amount of RAM, whether we want the devices installed in PCI slots to start or not and a debug mode. It is recommended not to touch anything in this window, since we could limit the hardware resources of the system. These options are oriented to virtual machines or servers.
- Boot options: in this section we can actively configure the safe boot mode, remove the graphical interface (without GUI boot), if we want to make a boot record for diagnosis or if we want to boot with basic video drivers.
Basically they are options aimed at solving problems with Windows startup so, in principle, there is no need to touch them if our computer works well.

Services
Through this tab we can see all the services that are installed and running or not on our system. Services are programs that run in the background and out of view of users. These are responsible for performing functions for other applications such as updates or device drivers.
In this list we can find the system services, which we should not deactivate unless we know what each one is for. And also services of the applications that we have installed. If we only want to view the services that are running from the applications, we can activate the “Hide all Microsoft services” box.
In this way we can deactivate application services that we know are not directly influencing the system. To deactivate any service, you just have to deactivate the box of the service in question, located to the left of each service.
Windows Start
This tab is a mystery. It sends us directly to the task manager so that from there we deactivate the Windows startup programs that we want.

Tools
What this last tab does is create a list of shortcuts to other system configuration tools. Many of them are based on the execution of certain commands. If for example we do not remember what the command to execute the command prompt is, this list includes it so that we can execute it.
To execute a task we will only have to select it and press the "Start" button. In this way we will access it without any problem.
As you can see, MSConfig is a really useful command, because it will allow us to configure basic aspects of the boot system and also allow us to access other tools through its commands. If you have any questions or clarifications, leave them in the comments. We hope the article has been helpful.
