AMD today announced the Radeon Pro W5700X workstation graphics card that will be available on Apple's latest Mac Pro, which has also gone on sale today. The Radeon Pro W5700X is designed for professional users and content creators.

Unlike the recently announced Radeon Pro W5700, the Radeon Pro W5700X boasts the 'full' chip of the Navi 10 GPU. This means it is equipped with 40 calculation units (CU), which equates to a total of 2, 560 SP. AMD hasn't listed the full specs for the graphics card, but the chipmaker said it offers up to 9.5 TFLOPS of single-precision floating-point (FP32) performance.

AMD calculates the theoretical performance using the value of the turbo clock speed. Calculations are calculated, redundancy required, for the Radeon Pro W5700X to operate at a maximum boost clock in the 1, 855 MHz range.

In addition to carrying the fully unlocked Navi 10 chip, the Radeon Pro W5700X also boasts a very substantial memory upgrade. The Vanilla Radeon Pro W5700 is limited to 8GB of GDDR6 memory. The new variant "X" has a GDDR6 memory of up to 16 GB.

AMD also did not specify memory speed in detail, but confirmed that the Radeon Pro W5700X offers up to 448 GBps of memory bandwidth. Assuming the graphics card is still on a 256-bit memory interface, this probably means that the memory is operating at 1, 750 MHz (14, 000 effective MHz) just like the normal Radeon Pro W5700.

It is not known if the Radeon Pro W5700X will have the same 205W TDP as the non-X version. According to Apple, the W5700X provides four Thunderbolt 3 ports and an HDMI port to connect displays.

Apple's new Mac Pro is available starting at $ 5, 999. However, desktop configurations with one or two Radeon Pro W5700X graphics cards are not yet available.
