Radeon rx 500 will have models based on vega and polaris
Table of contents:
AMD is preparing for the launch in the second quarter of the year of its new Radeon RX 500 graphics cards, a new generation that will include models based on the Vega and Polaris architectures. There was a possibility that Vega would arrive in the form of a new Fury series but it seems that it will not finally be so.
Radeon RX 500 will combine Vega and Polaris
The high-end Radeon RX 500 will be based on the Vega 10 graphics architecture and the mid-range will be based on Vega 11, presumably all with HBM2 memory, although it is not ruled out that the lower models conform to GDDR5 or GDDR5X to reduce costs.. Finally there will be the low-end of the Radeon RX 500 series that will be formed by the Polaris architecture to offer extremely competitive cost / performance solutions.
AMD will use Hynix's HBM2 memory that allows configurations of up to 8GB in capacity with a total bandwidth of 409.6GB / s, a figure that is less than 512GB / s of Fury series HBM memory based on the silicon Fiji. Hynix has confirmed that its HBM2 will be available in the second quarter of the year.
Vega is based on the new GFX9 architecture at 14nm and based on the NCU (Next Compute Engine) design. The chip will have a maximum of 4, 096 stream processors divided into 64 computing units, the same amount as Fiji silicon at 28nm, so AMD has focused on improving the efficiency and performance of each core instead of betting on force gross add more units.
