The new Razer Basilisk Ultimate is hard on the market

The list of devices that receive the last name 'Ultimate' is growing and this Razer Basilisk Ultimate is the second to sign up.

Below, we compile all the advantages that this peripheral has, but do not be nervous, as they are not all flowers. Later, we will go on to talk about some regulatory things that we think could have improved, because in this life nothing is perfect.

Leading technologies for the Razer Basilisk Ultimate

This new product is almost confirmed. Like the nickname Elite almost half a decade ago, Ultimate will be the next name for high-end mice. So don't be surprised to see renewed versions of the Mamba , DeathAdder or Lancehead sooner rather than later.

These new standards will bring a set of very interesting technologies to the mixer , but not everything will go up. In the mid-range we will also see new inclusions and, on the other hand, this will also automatically mean the reduction of current top-of-the-range products.

Hyperspeed wireless technology

After a time without too many internal improvements, Razer surprises us with a new technology: Wireless Hyperspeed .

This Razer standard only serves to communicate the mouse with its antenna, which gives us access at great speed without cables. However, the grace is not being able to use it (because we already can) , but the improvements that the company has achieved.

Hyperspeed has been shown to be a more stable, fast, and reliable system than other competing technologies. While it is true that the differences are minimal, we can assure you that a slight improvement can be distinguished.

We could equate this to when you swap one 60Hz screen for another at 144Hz. More advanced eyes will notice a noticeable difference, but most of the community will simply notice just an ultra-smooth and precise mouse.

Optical switches

In case we weren't fed up with optical switches in the latest inclusions in the world of keyboards, now we also have them in mice. The Razer Basilisk Ultimate will feature optical switches in both clicks, which will greatly enhance the mouse experience.

To start, we will have around 70 million clicks as life expectancy. This far exceeded the previous limit, which was around 50 million. On the other hand, we will have some very characteristic improvements as a result of abandoning the previous mechanical systems, such as keyboards.

Instead of using a mechanical switch to bump into another part, it is now a sensor that turns on or off when pressed. This, apart from reducing wear and tear, also allows the signal to be much faster, more stable and reliable.

The only partially strange thing is that to continue offering us this characteristic tactile response, the system must include a purely "aesthetic" mechanism. In other words, it does not improve or change the typing method, but makes the user continue to have the tactile experience of mechanical keyboards.

Motion-Sync technology

This technology is concerned with how data packets are transported and translated.

It is an almost imperceptible improvement, but it is something that improves the integrity of our signal. Especially where there are many wireless devices, the interference may be abundant.

This is where Motion-Sync shines the brightest , as it allows the mouse to receive a cleaner and more reliable signal than competing mice. Best of all, we can find this slight improvement even in an environment without discomfort, as we tested in the offices.

However, despite being an advance in the right direction, we believe that it is a technology that we cannot perceive.

Even knowing it was there, we could barely tell the difference of having or not having Motion-Sync . What we could highlight is that the mouse is incredibly soft, although we would not know whether or not it is due to this technology.

Advanced RGB technology

Unlike previous models, the Razer Basilisk Ultimate will have a generous RGB lighting system. As described by those responsible for the presentation, it is as if we had joined the Razer Mamba with the Basilisk .

The improvement consists, first of all, in the installation of RGB by different parts of the mouse. Secondly, we have to highlight that we will have 12 RGB points , something that will allow great customizations and very striking lights.

It is not a really differential or important point, but it is something that many users will like.

In our experience at Razer offices, the Razer Basilisk Ultimate stands out a lot. The light is uniform, very bright and very attractive to the eye, especially in low light environments.

Wireless charging port

As with the Viper , the Razer Basilisk Ultimate is bound to come with a wireless charging port. This considerably increases the price, but it is something that we cannot avoid. The problem is that if you would be interested in buying the mouse alone, you will have to wait a couple of months, as they informed us.

Regarding the peripheral, it will connect to the computer and allow you to recharge the mouse in a diagonal position, which is perfect to hold it at any time. The grace of this system is that the future Razer wireless mice will share the same standard, so you can recharge them all with a single dock.

For this, in the base we will have a metallic pattern that fits through magnets in the charging port.

On the other hand, we can install the USB antenna on the same wireless port, which will greatly facilitate its installation and uninstallation. Also, in the lower part it has several rubber strips underneath that prevent it from sliding on the surface on which it is, in addition to some very striking LED strips.

That makes the charging port the perfect companion for these new mice, which can run on a full charge for up to 70 hours, depending on the brand. This slightly surpasses the kings in autonomy of the moment.

We do not know the conditions to achieve these life expectancies, but as soon as we have it in our hands we will inform you.

Versatile and flexible wheel

In this case it is not so much as a cutting-edge, avant-garde or improved technology, but is simply the addition of an old acquaintance.

The wheel of the Razer Basilisk Ultimate has the advantage of being able to regulate its hardness by means of buttons on the bottom.

In other words, if you like a very tactile and controlled response, you can make the turn more resistant, especially for competitive games. On the other hand, if you prefer the piece to roll without obstacles, you can leave it almost free to scroll through large amounts of content.

On the other hand, we find the implementation of the lateral clicks of the wheel a very nice detail . It is something that few peripherals add and many users like.

On the normal desktop it is usually used to move a website laterally, if possible, and in video games it can be reprogrammed for many other functions.

Honestly, I have never used this feature, but because I have never had a mouse that had it.

Instead, I have had friends who have raved about this rare feature. In addition, someone else assured me that having or not having such support could be a determining factor when choosing a new peripheral.

But of course, it's all a matter of taste.

Negative sections

How could it be otherwise, we have to talk to you about the weight.

Exceeding 100g so easily is not a bad thing, but it is something the industry should be working on. With new designs, materials and optimization strategies, the heavy mice should be reducing their weight and the 106g of the Basilisk Ultimate is something remarkable.

On the one hand, professional e-Sports players denote that the perfect weight is between 69g - 75g. On the other hand, despite being somewhat more precise, heavy mice generate more fatigue, are inefficient and can also cause discomfort in the wrist.

However, this is not the only bad thing we found.

As we have indicated, we will not be able to get rid of the wireless charging docker, something that negatively affects the price. The Razer Basilisk Ultimate will go on the market for an approximate price of € 190, something that seems excessive to us.

In a couple of months it will possibly come out without a docker, which will show us its original price. However, until then we can do nothing but classify this mouse as an ultra-luxury mouse, practically.

Final words on the Razer Basilisk Ultimate

If you have the necessary pocket, the Razer Basilisk Ultimate is a peripheral to consider. Being now wireless it is much more versatile and, in addition, it does not lose any of its powers when cutting the cables.

Prototype model without full magnet base for wireless charging port

Regarding the same mouse, it will have a trigger in the area where the tip of the thumb would be located. If you know the Basilisk Original , you will know what it is for, but if you do not know, this piece is used to temporarily press a button that we indicate.

For example, the use Razer recommends is to temporarily change the DPI for video games with sniper rifles, for example.

The mouse is intended more for palm grips, so it will please a large part of the public. Therefore, if you do not use this type of grip, you may not feel totally comfortable with it, although there is always room to try new techniques, right?

As a last detail, we would like to add that it would have been nice to include optical switches on all mouse buttons. However, we understand that it would raise the construction price and that in the end, few people use these buttons. As perhaps it is spending a bit asking, we have not included it in the negative sections.
