Surely one of the star gifts of this 2019 is the wireless headphones, and there are many prices and brands, but only a few of them deserve to be on the podium. Razer wants to be one of them with its new Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds.
With a design very similar to the emblematic Apple AirPods, these headphones include a charging box to extend the autonomy up to 15 hours in a low latency connection and with the sound quality that the American manufacturer has accustomed us to. Let's see what these Earbuds can offer us. Will you be competing with the cream de la cream?
Before we begin, we thank Razer for their trust in Professional Review by always lending us their products for our analysis.
Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds technical characteristics
Unboxing
These Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds have arrived in a small cardboard box as always very striking, with the different black and green colors of the brand. Inside we have a fairly good protection for the product in the form of a dense, soft, polyethylene foam mold.
The purchase bundle includes the following elements:
- Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds Headphones Charging and Carrying Case USB Type-C to USB Type-A Power Cable Silicone Cases Carrying loop for case Warranty card
Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds exterior design
There is no doubt that the design of these Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds is inspired by the AirPods in terms of their driver design and in part to the other Hammerheads models in the design of their grips. These are made of metal and plastic as is usual for the brand, which provides IPx4 protection, that is, resistant to water jets. The weight of each earphone is only 45 grams.
These bluetooth headphones are button type with a quite important depth and necessary to store the 13 mm drivers that they install inside. Razer always gives us exceptional performance in terms of sound quality, especially in bass, so this diameter will ensure a great depth of sound.
The corresponding Razer logo could not be missing on the outer crown, which this time does not have lighting to save battery life. What they do include is a touch button that will help us interact with them, for music control, call control and general settings such as pairing, turning them on or activating the smartphone's visual assistant.
In the small grip is of course integrated the battery of each of the headphones that will be 275 mAh. On the inside we have the two corresponding contacts to charge the batteries in the case, small and very discreet. As well as the microphone located on the outside that we distinguish through a small hole in each driver.
Finally, it is important to look at the detail of having a set of silicone covers to add protection and comfort to these earbuds. Its installation is very simple and gives us that little extra comfort by not feeling the hardness of the plastic. In any case, no other type of protection is included, such as foam or rubber pads.
Charging and transport case
In headphones like these Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds you can not miss the corresponding case, which on the other hand will be mandatory to charge the headphones. It is made of aluminum for the entire exterior and is very small with an oval design, ideal for transport. In addition, it includes a small cord to transport or hang it.
Inside what we have is a second battery with a greater capacity that will allow us to charge them at any time and thus extend their autonomy, to about 16 hours as indicated by the manufacturer. For its placement we have holes perfectly designed to never make a mistake with the right and left and also its fixing is magnetic so that they do not fall.
On the outside of this box, we have a USB Type-C port to charge the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds and the integrated battery itself. At one end is the slot for the transport cord and in the front area a light that indicates the state of charge or complete.
During our use of these headphones we have only been able to pair them with the smartphone with them inserted in the charging base and the lid open. In addition, they store the last pairing made, so that when connected automatically they connect to our terminal.
Technical characteristics of flagship
We now continue to review all the specifications detailed by the manufacturer on these Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds, having seen many of them in the specifications table at the beginning.
Razer has managed to fit 13 mm drivers with a power of 8 mW in a minimum space, which will undoubtedly fit completely right to the size of the button. These offer a response frequency that covers the audible spectrum, between 20 and 20, 000 Hz with an average impedance of 32 Ω. The maximum measured sensitivity is 91 dB, so it has a fairly high sound power despite consuming only 8 mW.
On the part of the microphones, we have one in each earpiece, in order to record with an omni-directional pattern in very good quality for hands-free calls. The response frequency is not too wide, not reaching the level of other Razer products that stay between 300 to 5, 000 Hz with a fairly good signal to noise ratio of more than 55 dB. No type of active noise cancellation system is specifically specified, so it will be the terminal itself that takes care of this.
These speakers will work through Bluetooth 5.0 LE of low consumption, with a communication latency of only 60 ms. This will allow us to extend as far as possible the consumption and also the coverage to about 10 m on average, although in clear places the coverage will increase to a few more meters. The further they go, the more they consume that is basic. However, we have good 275 mAh integrated batteries in each earphone, which is not bad, in addition to a charge cycle that will take 1 hour and 30 minutes at the most, much faster than other low cost headphones that we have tried.
Experience of using the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds
The most important moment comes, that of telling the experience of use and whether it is really worth it. To pair our headphones for the first time with our smartphone, we must leave it in the case with the lid open:
As you can see, there is a green LED on, now it is time to go to the bluetooth settings of our phone and pair our Razer in-ear headphones with our smartphone. We warn you that if you use iPhone, the charge that the Hammerhead True WE have does not appear, but on Android it does indicate the battery percentage.
Have we had problems when pairing or has the communication been cut while we have used them? No, cut none. The experience in that sense is quite good, and the helmets sound very good both listening to music and playing. They are at the level of the first generation airpods, so you can get an idea.
The only downside we see is that sometimes you don't want to pair without being inside the charging case. Which is a chore, because we always have to carry it with us. For the rest it seems very competent headphones.
Final words and conclusion about Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds
The Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds are the best in-ear wireless helmets Razer has manufactured to date. A sublime sound quality, excellent ergonomics and a very elegant design, that you can take while you work or if you are going to play sports.
It seems to us a success that the headphones do not have lighting, we have already tried other Razer models that do have it and shorten autonomy. It has given us autonomy of about 7 to 8 hours a day, which we consider more than adequate for daily use.
We recommend reading the best headphones on the market
The sound is clear, the bass is good and if you have a good smartphone you will enjoy while playing PUBG, Fortnite or Clash Royale. A 100% recommended purchase for gamers or if you want to play sports.
Its price in the Razer online store is 119.99 euros. We find it a tough competition for the first generation AirPods that are for 129.99 euros, and that if you want a black design instead of white, this Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds is a great option.
