For its part, we find comments regarding the E-Sports teams sponsored by Razer (such as MiBR, Top ESports or Immortals) and even impressions from the players who have tried it. This is a statement of intent since the Huntsman is a clearly designed keyboard for the competitive E-Sport and takes care of every last detail to meet the demands of the Pros .

Razer Huntsman TE design

Taking the Razer Huntsman TE out of the box, our first impression is that we find ourselves with a sturdy and robust keyboard. This is due to the fact that the structure on which the switches are mounted is made of aluminum, which gives it great strength and a satisfactory weight.

The finish is mat black with a slightly rough texture that is felt in both the frame and the switches. Even without unfolding the temples, the keyboard has a slight rear elevation and the switches themselves have a passive ergonomic position thanks to their shape.

As a detail, the name of Razer can be found discreetly screen printed on the arrow keys and is the only evidence at a glance that tells us what brand the keyboard is, although not its model. For this we must turn it around and look at its belly.

The keyboard that we bring you to analyze this time is the American model, so you can see changes in the distribution of keys or punctuation. However, you can rest assured: it will be fully available in Spanish, Ñ included.

The back of the keyboard is matte black plastic and uses the Razer motto as a pattern ( For gamers. By gamers ). Four non-slip rubber bases are visible in every corner of the Razer Huntsman TE and right in the middle we can find the serial number label along with various quality certificates.

On the temples, it is a surprise to see that they are folding and they have two variants in the same structure to choose the height that is most comfortable for the user. The keyboard already offers in itself a quite pleasant inclination but it is an ingenious detail that has not gone unnoticed.

Optomechanical switches

The strong point of this keyboard, and not without reason. Optomechanical switches combine laser with mechanical structure that emphasizes not only the expected longevity and reliability of a mechanical keyboard, but also the speed achievable by a laser-detected keystroke. Upon removing the keys we will see a mechanical keyboard structure with which we are not at all familiar since it is an original Razer technology.

The operation of this mechanism is that all the switches have an individual laser on each key that detects its interruption at the moment the switch is pressed, minimizing the response time as much as possible.

This together with the PBT used to manufacture each switch creates a unique experience. For those less literate, PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) is the best type of thermoplastic polymer that we can find on the market in keyboards, especially backlit keyboards.

Its performance to withstand use is much better than that of conventional ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), especially the hassle of erasing key characters. Razer is aware of all this, so the natural step was to incorporate it into its premium range.

Cable

An inseparable companion to any self-respecting keyboard, the cable is an element that cannot be missed in our analysis. To say that for both ports it has plastic protective covers that fit in the form of mouthpieces to protect them during transport, a detail that we greatly appreciate.

As we mentioned at the beginning, the cable is removable and has its connection point at the rear left end. As it could not be less, it is of a generous length (1.80m) and braided fiber. It has partial stiffness, which makes it difficult for tangles.

Putting the Razer Huntsman TE into use

The Razer Huntsman TE is a keyboard that is easy to love. Everything in it talks about quality and good finishes and is clearly focused on users who are up to their eyebrows in the gaming world and who know very well what they want from a premium keyboard. The touch of its switches both when playing and when writing is very satisfactory and not tiring. It has configurable macros on the fly and internal memory to save our game combinations (or in the cloud, if we want).

For the curious, we will tell you that the sensation when typing is quite close to the famous Cherry MX Red.

The Tournament Edition or TKL format is always something to be appreciated not only by players who do not take advantage of the numeric keyboard but also for those users who have a small space or full keyboards find it too cumbersome. Sometimes, less is more.

This keyboard does not have dedicated multimedia buttons or volume wheel because it is fully focused on the game and all its energies have been put into optimizing its performance.

RGB lighting

Fully configurable using Razer Synapse, the lighting on the Razer Huntsman TE is customizable with regard to light patterns, direction and intensity. The reading of the backlit characters is frankly good and those "secondary" icons that do not receive it directly (we are talking about the Fn keys and the like) have their additional functionalities screen printed in white to facilitate visibility to the user in low light conditions.

One detail that we loved is that the left Capsule Glows white when it is active and stops responding to RGB lighting patterns, making life easier for those who, in addition to playing, use the keyboard to work.

You all know what Razer Chroma technology is like, but when combined with the keys made with PBT we can really appreciate the clarity of the character reading and a certain purity in the way we perceive RGB light.

Razer Central and Synapse software

If we enter the Razer Synapse we can synchronize the lighting of our Razer Huntsman TE at the same time as other peripherals of the brand or set it separately.

Within the keyboard options we can see the Personalization section and the Lighting section.

• In Personalization we can make changes to the key assignment, the game mode (to disable the Windows key) and an access to the Windows Keyboard Properties (that unless you know what you are doing we recommend that you do not touch). For its part, in the Lighting section and as its name indicates, it is where we can make the beast with psychedelic light modes, adjust its intensity or create our own in Advanced Effects by installing the Chroma Studio module.

All of these settings can be written locally to the Huntsman TE's memory.

The Razer Huntsman TE is a keyboard that goes on the market with a price of € 149.99. It is an expensive keyboard, yes, but it is made with the best qualities and latest Razer technology. What you have here is a peripheral focused on competitive and highest level gaming in which every second counts. Undoubtedly it is the optomechanical switches that raise a large part of their price, but after trying it (and looking askance at the competition) it is when we realize that at such high levels, this is the type of detail that makes the difference.

Is it a keyboard made for you? It depends. If you are passionate about gaming and looking for a keyboard that is practically infallible as well as durable, the Huntsman is a great candidate that will not fail you. However, your portfolio must also rise to the challenge.
