We continue to analyze the products that are part of the special kit that Razer has sent us, after the Mamba Wireless, it is the turn of the Razer Kraken Tournament headset. It is a gaming headset that promises great sound quality, as well as multiple possibilities thanks to its external USB DAC and all the power of the Synapse 2 application. Unboxing and design

The presentation is the same as we already saw in the Mamba Wireless, since this headset is part of the e-Sports kit that the company has sent us. We leave you with some photos so you can see the brutal presentation.

After that we already focus on the Razer Kraken Tournament. The first thing to say is that this headset has been designed to be as compatible as possible, while offering all the benefits of Synapse 2 to PC users. The headset uses a 3-pole jack connector, so it can be connected to a host of devices.

The cable is twisted, has a length of 1.2 meters, and includes a control for volume and mic.

To improve its possibilities, Razer includes a USB DAC, thanks to which we can use all the benefits of Synapse 2 in this headset, then we will see it in more detail. This DAC has a lot of functionality, as the manufacturer has integrated controls for volume, bass boost, and even the THX feature. The reason for this is that this DAC is compatible with PS4, but the Sony platform is not compatible with Synapse, thanks to the dedicated buttons we will be able to take full advantage of all the characteristics of the headset on the PS4. This DAC works with a 2 meter stranded cable, so when using it the total cable length goes to 3.2 meters.

Leaving aside the USB DAC, this Razer Kraken Tournament opts for high-quality stereo sound thanks to its two 50mm drivers. Razer has opted for the best quality neodymium drivers, which make us presage very serious and present bass. These drivers have a frequency response of 12 Hz - 28 kHz, an impedance of 32 Ω at 1 kHz and a sensitivity of 118 dB.

The leatherette pads that accompany the drivers are also excellent, their design is circumaural with an internal dome size of 56 mm that helps boost the bass, they are very soft pads to offer great comfort during long sessions of use. These pads will also offer us a very good insulation from the outside, the bad thing is that in summer they will make us sweat a lot.

The design of the domes is quite characteristic of the Razer Kraken series, we have a perforated black metal ring and in the center we find the brand's logo. When operating with a 3.5mm jack, there is no trace of RGB lighting.

A retractable and unidirectional microphone is hidden in the left dome, so that we can always have it on hand without hindering us. Its recording pattern will prevent noise from the keyboard or from our music. The micro was the weak point of the previous Kraken, it will be necessary to see if this new model is up to the task.

The headband of this Razer Kraken Tournament features a height adjustment system so that each user can adapt the headset perfectly to their head. The headband is padded inside, so that it rests softly on the user's head and does not disturb in long sessions of use, on the outside the logo of the brand is screen printed. It is a classic headband design that punctures the headphones by a single point, the closing pressure that is achieved is quite ideal to achieve good insulation without being bothersome.

Synapse 2 software

Thanks to the USB DAC we can take advantage of all the benefits of Synapse 2 in this Razer Kraken Tournament, although only when we use it with our PC, since the application does not exist for the PS4. The software is downloaded from the official Razer website, and its installation does not contain any secrets. We just have to keep in mind that we need a Razer account to use it, creating it is free. Once the application is installed, it will download all the necessary files for the device.

Synapse 2 allows us to activate THX spatial audio technology, which we can configure as stereo or surround as we like best. Normally we will use surround mode to play, and stereo for movies and multimedia in general. The possibilities continue with an audio normalizer and bass boost, perfect for preventing volume fluctuations and reinforcing the sound of explosions and gunshots. We also have a full 10-band EQ from 31Hz to -16Hz, with several preset profiles. The mic's adjustment possibilities include adjusting sensitivity, volume level and suppressing local noise.

Final words and conclusion about Razer Kraken Tournament

Razer Kraken Tournament is a stereo gaming headset, but it includes an external DAC to improve its functionality when using it on PC and PS4. This makes it one of the most versatile headphones on the market, since it offers us many adjustment options, while it is compatible with all types of devices thanks to its 3.5 mm connector. In this sense, the brand has done an exceptional job and nobody can complain.

The 50mm drivers offer a very good sound, especially in the bass, which are always the most prominent feature of Razer audio devices. Despite this, the overall sound is fairly balanced, with a pleasant profile and without the bass reaching impoverish the treble and mids. The volume they offer is very high without becoming excessively saturated, we recommend not putting it to the maximum.

The ergonomics of these Razer Kraken Tournament are also quite good making it easy and enjoyable for several hours with them on your head. Its height adjustment system helps them to be quite comfortable helmets in general.

We get to the microphone and this is the weakest section, although if we perceive some improvement over previous models, it will serve us perfectly to communicate with our playmates, but it makes clear that the brand has invested money in offering the best sound quality and not in the mike.
