Rumors have long been circulating about the possibility that the Razer firm embarks on the launch of its own mobile device, but now those rumors are confirmed.

Min-Liang Tan, current CEO of Razer, has made a statement to CNBC confirming that Razer is working on a mobile device. And apparently, it seems that the company is very advanced because that new device could debut before the end of 2017.

A new mobile device, but what type?

In an interview with CNBC, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan has confirmed that the new device will focus on games and entertainment. And although from his words we can already deduce that other devices could end up resembling this new mobile device in terms of functionality, Tan has not mentioned it at any time, so it is not yet clear if it refers to a gaming smartphone or a portable console.

Specifically, what Min-Liang Tan affirmed is that “I can say that we are arriving with a mobile device specifically geared towards games and entertainment. We hope it arrives at the end of the year. ”

It is also evident that Tan has cautiously chosen his words when speaking of a "mobile device" and, especially, noting that "we hope" that it may be available by the end of this year. Come on, you haven't caught your fingers.

At a later point in the interview, the CEO chatted about the Razer company's plans to go public as well sometime later this year. Tan pointed out that “the IPO would allow us and much more. And that is what we want to continue doing: making fresh products. ”

Right now it's still hard to predict what that mobile device might look like, especially considering that in the past year, Razer has acquired audio company THX, gaming company Ouya, and smartphone maker Nextbit. While all of these acquisitions allude to a larger presence in the entertainment industry, they do not help determine what the device will look like or how it will work. So, we will wait.
