Introduced during the month of August 2015, the Razer Orbweaver Chroma is the latest and most advanced gaming-specific keyboard from the prestigious brand. This new keyboard is an evolution of the original 2014 Orbweaver. The Razer Orbweaver Chroma includes the most advanced features of Razer products such as its highly customizable Chroma lighting system and famous Razer Green switches.

The Razer Orbweaver Chroma arrives in a box dominated by the brand's corporate colors. On the front we see a window that allows us to observe the product live before going through the box, unfortunately the entire window is covered in plastic so we do not have the option to test the buttons before buying it. At the back we detail its most important features such as the Chroma lighting system, its Razer Green switches and a total of 30 programmable functions that we will detail below. The bundle is completed with the usual elements that we find in all the brand's products such as stickers, a greeting card and the warranty book.

The Razer Orbweaver Chroma was born with the mission of offering players very advanced control and specifically designed to work with the left hand, so its ergonomics and comfort are far superior to what can be obtained with a conventional keyboard. This advanced device has a total of 20 keys with Razer Green mechanical switches, a command for the thumb with eight directions and two additional buttons with which we have a total of 30 programmable functions to which we can assign any function. In summary, we have a very compact and highly configurable device that will take up much less space than a conventional keyboard and with all the ergonomic advantages that its special design entails, so we can use it during long sessions of use without feeling tired.

Razer shows a great interest in ergonomics, so the Razer Orbweaver Chroma includes a system of three adjustable modules so that the length and orientation of the palm rest, palm rest and thumb rest can be adjusted to suit the user to adapt it perfectly to the measurements of the left hand.

We now focus on the Razer Orbweaver Chroma and the first thing we appreciate right out of the box is its meshed cable for added strength and the gold-plated USB connector to maximize contact and protect it from wear and corrosion.

The device is clearly designed to be used with the left hand, something logical if we consider that most users will use the mouse with the right hand, although logically left-handed people will encounter a problem if they want to use the Razer Orbweaver Chroma as its design has been thought exclusively for right-handed users. As we see its design allows the wrist to rest on the bottom, the palm of the hand on the center piece, the thumb on the module located to the right and finally the remaining four fingers are responsible for controlling the 20 programmable keys from the top of the device.

The keys are numbered 01-20 and feature Razer Gren switches, known to offer a life span of at least 60 million keystrokes, and both tactile and audible feedback with a 1.9mm travel along with a 0.4mm offset..

Now we look at the thumb module in which we observe a small command with eight directions, perhaps we can think that it is something excessive to be able to comfortably use something so small although we will not know for sure until we start using it. We also see the two additional buttons that provide us with the same number of actions that will be added to eight on the remote and 20 on the mechanical keys.

At the bottom we find a total of seven rubber feet that will be responsible for keeping the Razer Orbweaver Chroma well fixed on our desk so that it does not move, something that is especially important as it is such a compact and lightweight device. Also at the bottom are the three pieces that help us to modify the dimensions of the peripheral and thus better adapt it to the physiology of our hand. The most negative point that we see in terms of regulation is that it does not allow you to modify the height of its parts, so we do not have mobility in terms of height and arm position.

Once we expand the Razer Orbweaver Chroma to the maximum we see that its size increases a lot so it has enough capacity to adapt to the hands of all users, whether small or large.

Razer Synapse 2.0 Software

The Razer Orbweaver Chroma can be used as soon as you connect to our PC, although the most recommended way to get the most out of it is to use the Razer Synapse 2.0 software that we can download for free from the web. The keyboard is configured at the factory to work like the left side of a conventional keyboard, that is, the keys marked as addresses correspond to the WASD keys.

The lighting is configured at the factory to work alternating between all the colors of the spectrum, of course through Razer Synapse 2.0 we can configure it to our liking among a handful of options:

Wave: Swap the color scale and make a customizable wave effect in two directions. Spectrum Cycle: Cycles of all colors. Breathing: It allows us to choose 1 or 2 colors and they alternate for several seconds. Chroma Experience: Make a color combination starting from the equator of the keyboard. Static: A single fixed color. Custom themes backlit specific keys, depending on the profile / game activated.

Apart from lighting, we can configure the 30 actions offered by the Razer Orbweaver Chroma to our liking, we can assign each key the desired action, including macros or shortcuts. We can also create various profiles as well as keyboard maps.

Final words and conclusion about Razer Orbweaver Chroma

After having used the Razer Orbweaver Chroma for several days we can now make an assessment of what this sensational device offers us. We are in front of a specific keyboard for gamers that is very comfortable and pleasant to use, before I commented that one of the drawbacks is not being able to regulate the height although at the moment of truth I have not missed it at all, once adjusted its dimensions to those of my left hand its use is very comfortable from the first moment although it is true that it takes a little practice to master it perfectly and get the most out of it.

In many games we will not need to configure the keyboard as the factory configuration is more than enough, however there will be some games such as Diablo III or The Witcher in which some of the necessary actions are outside the scope of the factory configuration, for example the "I" key for inventory so we will have to assign it to another key or one of the thumb controls as appropriate. Of course this depends a lot on each game and we cannot recommend any specific configuration, it is best to spend a few minutes and save a profile for each game so the next time we play it will be much faster.

The touch of the Razer Green buttons is as always fantastic being these very pleasant to use, the directional pad for the thumb if it is a little more difficult to get used to it, surely because it is so compact and includes no less than eight functions although once that we have mastered it offers us many possibilities and we will come to adore it.

In conclusion we can say that the Razer Orbweaver Chroma is a fantastic accessory that all PC gamers should try, I am sure that more than one will be delighted with its features and possibilities and will not want to return to a conventional keyboard.

Currently, there is a lot of competition between mechanical keyboards to play . But without a doubt the Razer Orbweaver Chroma is one of the best although its price may be a handicap for the final consumer, it is for sale for an approximate price of 156 euros.
