Razer presents, within its line of controls, the Razer Raiju Mobile. A remote control, which as its name indicates is designed for use with Android mobile devices. And it is that, although nowadays more and more people play with their smartphone, the maneuverability offered by the touch screen is far from that offered by a remote control of a lifetime. It is at this point that the Razer Raiju Mobile comes in, which is prepared to be connected via Bluetooth or cable, and which offers the same large number of buttons and quality of materials as its Raiju counterparts for consoles. Let's see how it is at the moment of truth:! Playing.

Razer Raiju Mobile Technical Features

Unboxing

As we are accustomed to Razer, we find ourselves before a careful box, with the characteristic green and black colors, an image of the Razer Raiju Mobile on the front and a brief summary of the functions on the back. The front of the box opens upwards, exposing the remote and its components together with a padded foam to protect them. The exact content of the package consists of:

  • Razer Raiju Mobile controller.Cable microUSB C to microUSB C. USB cable to microUSB C. Quick information guide. Razer stickers.

Design

The Razer Raiju Mobile offers a button layout and configuration similar to an Xbox controller in its overall appearance, which is welcome. In turn, it has as usual, with a very good quality of manufacturing materials. The front part is made of rigid plastic with a smooth texture, while the rear part of the grips has a softer and rougher material to prevent slipping.

The front of the control has on the left side of the steering crosshead at the bottom and the left joystick just above it. The Razer Raiju Mobile joysticks feature a semi-rigid material, which looks sturdy and a recess to better accommodate your thumbs. On the right side, on the other hand, we find the right joystick at the bottom and the mechanical buttons A, B, Y, X in the upper area, which offer a very good touch and response time.

The central upper part has the main feature of this remote, the retractable support to place a smartphone. This mount has an inclination of up to 60 degrees and a maximum width of 8 centimeters, enough to introduce large smartphones such as the Samsung Note or the Xiaomi Mi Max. Thanks to the rubbers of both ends of the support, we can be sure that our terminal does not suffer any damage.

Four function buttons such as SELECT, BACK, HOME and START are located on the lower front of the remote. The HOME button has the function of turning the controller on and off, and if it is also pressed at the same time, the START button starts Bluetooth pairing mode. We will be able to know the status of the remote control at all times thanks to the indicator led immediately above the function buttons.

The upper edge houses the typical triggers, two with less travel at each upper end, two others with greater travel at the bottom, and two other new triggers are added in the central part, as was the case with the other Raiju models.. Between these triggers is the Type C microUSB charging port. All these triggers have easy access and good travel, with the exception of L1 and R1, whose travel is somewhat less but it is a matter of getting used to.

The rear of the Razer Raiju Mobile, is also an old acquaintance, on the top are the switches to unlock or lock the longest travel of the L2 and R2 lower triggers. In the central area, another switch allows us to select between connecting the remote using the USB mode or using the BT1 and BT2 modes. The latter mode is really useful if we want to pair the remote to two different Bluetooth devices without having to be pairing each time, just pair one terminal to BT1 and another to BT2.

In the lower area of this back, we finally find the square shaped M3 and M4 buttons. I still think, as with the PS4 Raiju, that they are buttons placed in a place where they can easily be pressed by mistake. It is true that with time of use, one gets to learn not to press them when not wanted. Luckily, they are buttons that we can customize or not, in the same way as the central triggers.

The measurements of the Razer Raiju Mobile are similar to those found on a console controller, they are 125 x 159.4 x 66 mm. It therefore fits well in the hand and the buttons are reached without difficulty.

The weight, however, can be an inconvenience. Its 306 grams are perfect if we play with it as it is, but the moment we put a smartphone in the holder, especially if it is large, we begin to notice an overweight that is not entirely comfortable for long sessions. If we rest our arms on a table, this problem can be alleviated to a great extent.

Games

Connecting the Razer Raiju Mobile and playing is simple and fast. However, unfortunately, we will not be able to play any game we want, this is one of its biggest drawbacks. There is a long list of games that can be played natively with the controller, some of them famous as the GTA, Final Fantasy or Life Is Strange, for example. But there are currently highly played games like PUBG or Fornite that do not have this native button configuration, and therefore are not playable. Just these are the games which could boost sales of a more professional type controller like this. Perhaps it is a deliberate action for not having the permission of these companies or for not being able to emulate those buttons, in any case, it is a shame. The list of supported games can be viewed on the Razer website.

It is possible to use external apps, such as Octopus, to emulate the buttons on the screen and use the controller in non-native games, however, its use is recommended exclusively for offline games, since online games run the risk of have our account banned.

For games that have the option of control by default or to play with emulators we will have little trouble using the Razer Raiju Mobile.

Beyond that, the performance given with the supported games is excellent. There is no delay and the gameplay is similar to that of a console.

Connectivity

To connect the controller and play, simply have an Android device in version 6 or higher and make use of the Bluetooth LE connection or through the included USB cable, as previously mentioned.

However, if you want to map the buttons, you need to download the Raiju Mobile app from the Play Store, connect the remote and log in with a Razer account. Initially we have a default profile but we can create the ones we want to use with different games. These profiles, as with other Raiju, are kept in the cloud, so we should not be afraid of losing them.

Battery

The Razer Raiju Mobile's battery capacity is 1500 mAh. Razer announced a range of up to 23 hours after a single charge. During our testing time, and after spending an hour or so each day playing with the controller, the battery lasted for about 18 sessions. An amount close to what the brand promised and still quite good.

On the other hand, the full charge took around three and a half hours. Keep in mind, that despite bringing a charging cable, the same does not happen with the power adapter, so it is necessary to use any other. It can be seen when the battery is low if the lower led flashes red. On the other hand, if it is blue or green, it means that it is fully charged, depending on whether it is connected by Bluetooh or via USB cable.

Conclusion and final words of the Razer Raiju Mobile

Razer continues to create really good controls when it comes to material quality and robustness. Nor are they lacking good ideas when it comes to putting them into a product.

In the case of this Razer Raiju Mobile, the ideas are good, but there are some points that can make it take off slowly on the market. The main drawback that can be blamed is, obviously, its price. A high price of € 150, almost the same as some low-end smartphones, which will surely put many people back. However, there are very competitive people focused on mobile games, who would see this remote as their ideal companion for some online multiplayer games, but again, we found another drawback when it comes to wanting to use it with the games that have been the most popular lately. Free Fire, Fornite, or PUBG, to name a few.

It is also necessary to weigh how and where it will be used, since the total weight of the remote control together with a smartphone can tire after long periods of play.

On the other hand, there are still two positive aspects that those who take control of this command will appreciate are the great autonomy it offers and the possibility of mapping its multitude of buttons.

In conclusion, we find the Razer Raiju Mobile a great controller, but only suitable for those who want to play the currently supported games in the best possible way regardless of the financial outlay.
