The latest from Razer in wireless mice arrives with the Razer Viper Ultimate and things promise. In a market where they are generally considered second-rate compared to cable, the American company comes to surprise. How? We show you.

Razer is the Apple of gaming. Their products are strongly focused on high performance and have a unique brand identity from their switches to their mice.

Unboxing of the Razer Viper Ultimate

We find a box type box with the traditional color combination of green and black Razer. On its cover we have an image of the mouse along with the name of its model, the image of the three-headed snake and additional technical information:

  • Razer Chroma RGB Lighting Razer HyperSpeed Wireless Technology Razer Focus + 20K DPI Sensor Optical Switches Memory Five Profile Storage Capacity 74g ultralight weight, designed for E-Sports

On the left side we can read additional information about HyperSpeed technology, which ensures performance 25% faster than other wireless mice. It also offers the lowest latency percentage, energy efficiency, and frequency emission without ups and downs to maintain maximum stability.

For its part, on the right you can find the reason why we tell you that this mouse is so strongly focused on E-Sports. Developed by the design team at the direction of Team Razer players, the Viper Ultimate promises performance even faster than a wired mouse.

We can also read a statement by Epitacio de Melo (TACO), a professional CS: GO player:

At the bottom we have a list of teams that Razer promotes, such as MiBR, Gen.G GG or Inmortals among others.

We turn to the reverse and here the thing focuses on emphasizing the qualities of the Razer Viper Ultimate through an infographic that also emphasizes the charging station and other technical data previously mentioned. All this is followed by a two-year guarantee seal and translation into ten languages of the data in the scheme.

When we open the chest, the Razer Viper Ultimate receives us perfectly packaged along with its charging point inside a black protective foam mold that we can also see covering the lid. By removing the foil of the mouse and charger we can find the rest of the content hidden below.

The total contents of the box are summarized in:

  • Razer Viper Ultimate Gaming Mouse Razer Chromaç Charging Point Wireless USB Receiver Charging Cable Documentation and Guide

Something we love about Razer is the attention they give to accessories. This brand is distinguished by always including a set of stickers on its products, including this time a note to the consumer in onion skin accompanying the user manual.

Razer Viper Ultimate Design

We enter the matter and there is much to say. Let's start by noting that the Viper Ultimate is a completely ambidextrous mouse, with two pairs of side buttons on both the left and right that are fully configurable by software.

The only backlit area we find on the mouse is the Razer imager with the three-headed snake. As we will explain later in its software section, the intensity and color of the brightness are adjustable but the final effect has a flawless finish.

The color of the mouse is matte black with shiny plastic details in the upper area of the mouse. Its symmetry is total, so those left-handed people who are exasperated by right-handed designs will find here a good ally. The side buttons offer the same texture as that of the frame but we find instead that the surface of both sides is covered with non-slip rubber that optimizes its grip thanks to a grainy texture.

This same rubber can be found on the wheel, which has a fluted design to facilitate movement. It produces a slight sound when turning and the touch is very satisfactory thanks to the notches in its design.

The upper buttons M1 and M2 are separated from the palmar support area as they are built using different pieces, not a single continuous one under which we find separate switches.

At the base we have a total of four white surfers plus an additional one around the sensor. The finish of its edges and corners is slightly rounded to ensure a smooth ride. In the center of the Viper Ultimate we can also see the two connections for the charging station, quality certificates and the serial number.

Characteristics of this wireless model are the on and off button (next to which is the one of the DPI profiles with their corresponding LEDs) and the compartment on the sensor where the USB receiver is located when it is not in use or we are going to move. It is undoubtedly a great touch that could not be missed.

The wire

The Viper Ultimate's cable as it should be in a high-end Razer product is twisted. It has a total length of 1.8m and its connectors are USB type A and Micro USB respectively.

A well thought-out feature is that the cable allows us to either connect the charging point to our PC or use the Viper Ultimate wired while charging during the game. A good detail is that in the Micro USB we have the word TOP inscribed on one of the sides to make it easy for us to plug the cable into both the mouse and the charging pad.

The design of the charging point is simple and functional. Featuring a matte black mouse-like finish, the Razer logo is silkscreen printed on top with a gloss finish. At its base, when unpacking we find a protective plastic that protects the contact surface. It is made up of a rubber with a slightly sticky touch that guarantees us not to move from the position in which we fix it. It does not give off any type of glue, do not be alarmed, it is just a quality that is designed so that the station does not lurch around the table when we have the mouse charging.

In the Razer Synapse software it is also possible to see the percentage of available battery in both devices.

It has a trapezoidal structure on which we can place the mouse to charge when it is low on battery. In these cases, the illumination of both the Viper Ultimate and the charging point changes to an alarm pattern to warn that it needs to be refueled.

The position where you load the mouse is slightly tilted. The RGB lighting will work both with the Viper logo and in the RGB band that runs through the base of the charging station and both will synchronize unless we have configured them using software to make different patterns.

The Razer Viper Ultimate fits with great comfort thanks to the two depressions that we find in its base of about 3 mm deep in the connectors. Something that also guarantees its correct loading and fixing is that the connectors are slightly magnetized.

We set the lighting to maximum to check the efficiency of the battery since it is usually what makes more autonomy lose the mouse. We have been using the Razer Viper Ultimate for five days and it is still at 20% of its charge.

Razer informs us that we should expect an approximate autonomy of 70h of continuous use. This may change depending on whether we use the Razer Viper Ultimate with or without lighting, but at the moment we have not needed to charge it in almost a week of daily use.

Putting the Razer Viper Ultimate into use

Look, we are not going to deceive you. We like razer, and in fact to do this review we have put aside our Mamba Elite Mouse to try this one, so we can tell you from the experience of changing a mouse from the same brand to the Razer Viper Ultimate.

Ergonomics

Starting with the grips, the size of this mouse (127mm x 6mm) lends itself to any of them quite comfortably. It is true that it is not a particularly large mouse (it has a medium size), so those longer hands with palmar grip may notice that their fingers are slightly over the front, although nothing out of the ordinary.

I have girlish hands and use claw grip. In my case, it was a very comfortable mouse since it came from another something bigger than is convenient for me and I have had a very satisfactory experience.

Another notable aspect that will benefit many players is its minimal weight of only 74 grams, which makes it an excellent candidate for long sessions of use without resenting the wrist.

Test sensitivity, acceleration and DPI

As always, in the testing of the mice, a comparison regarding the sensitivity and acceleration of the DPI cannot be missed. By standard we do it with 800 points and in general we have found it to be quite accurate. There are no major jolts or slider notches, so we conclude that the Viper Ultimate's sensitivity is extremely fluid. In fact, it beats the results of other wired mice that have also gone through this test.

This performance is due to HyperSpeed technology. It was directly compared to Logitech's Lightspeed and guarantees up to 25% faster transfer speed , as well as a more stable transmission. This has allowed to offer a mouse with a higher DPI (up to 20, 000) and a higher IPS (650), which translates into a better resolution precision of 99.6% (better than the current champion's 99.4%).

RGB lighting

You already know that we cannot do a junk review without dedicating a section to the little lights, but it is that they dislocate us. Today rare is the gaming peripheral that has no RGB backlight, and the case of Razer is no exception. The Razer Viper Ultimate responds with default breath lighting the first time we turn it on, but this can obviously be configured with the Razer Synapse software.

How the Razer Central Software Works

Razer Viper Ultimate, like all the other products of the company works with Razer Synapse, the official software that is capable of doing tricks like synchronizing the lighting pattern that we create in all our Razer devices.

For those users less familiar with Razer, you should know that it is one of the most complete gaming softwares on the market, although it needs to be constantly active to function effectively, therefore consuming resources.

Within the Razer Viper Ultimate section we find five sections:

  1. Customize: right-handed or left-handed, button configuration. Performance: five fully customizable DPI settings and three possible polling rates: 125, 500 and 1000. Lighting: we regulate brightness intensity and effect pattern. We can create custom modes. Calibration - This is a section for the surface of the mouse pad. We can use the default (highly recommended) or form a totally personalized profile. Power - Power saving options and mouse shutdown while idle.
It is also possible to choose between Quick Effects (by default) or Advanced Effects, for which we must install the Chroma Studio module.

Final words and conclusions about Razer Viper Ultimate

The Razer Viper Ultimate has a very specific niche of users: it is a mouse focused on players who spend many hours in competition and who may notice resentment on the wrist with the use of heavier mice.

With this mouse you have the guarantee of obtaining a Razer that can accompany you for years without losing benefits and stay on top.

The sensor we found in this model is the best of the brand to date and is clearly on the market to compete at the level of Logitech's HERO 16K. As a negative point, the Razer Viper Ultimate is launched with a somewhat prohibitive price for some pockets, reaching € 169.99. However, we already know what they say: quality has to be paid for.
