Unboxing and design

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate comes in top-notch packaging like all branded products. On the front we find a large image of the keyboard printed in high quality, and a small window that allows us to test the buttons and appreciate their excellent quality before going through the box, all a detail. In the rear area we have the most important features such as its Razer Green switches and water resistance. Once we open the bundle we find:

The Razer Black Widow Ultimate is a full-format keyboard, that is, it includes the numerical part on the right, this makes its measurements reach 475 mm x 171 mm x 39 mm with a weight of 1, 500 grams, figures very typical in this kind of product. The keyboard is built entirely of very good quality black plastic, it is the same material that you use in all your peripherals and the quality is excellent so there is no reason to change something that works very well.

Like the previous versions, the keyboard is distributed in an alpha-numeric area, full numeric keyboard, function keys in the upper area and on the left side. In the upper area, we have the function keys which have multimedia characteristics. On this occasion Razer has sent us the version with the distribution of keys in Spanish, something that we appreciate since it is the version that our readers are going to buy almost certainly.

Beneath the keys are the Razer Green switches, these are proprietary switches manufactured by Razer with the aim of improving the characteristics and performance of the Cherry MX that are usually the most used. This Green version is based on the Cherry MX Blue and modifies and improves them to be able to offer a longevity of up to 60 million keystrokes. Each key supports an activation force of up to 50 grams and an ultrapolling of 1000 Hz.

In the rear area of the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate we have the two typical plastic legs that will help us lift it slightly and improve ergonomics if we wish. Finally, we highlight the braided and screened cable with a length of 2.1 meters, at the end we find a USB connection which we miss being gold plated, because Razer pays a lot of attention to its products and we are surprised that it does not come with this extra protection.

Razer Synapse 2.0 Software

The Razer BlackWidows Ultimate can be used without installing its software, although we recommend doing so in order to get the most out of it. The application in question is Razer Synapse 2.0 that we can download from the manufacturer's website and whose installation does not hide any secrets.

Once the application is open, it will ask us to update the firmware of the product, which we always recommend, although it takes a few minutes, the only important thing is not to disconnect it during the process. If you do it later, you can do it from the application itself. Once we open the software, we do not find various sections to manage the keyboard and get all the power out of it.

This software offers us various possibilities such as creating different usage profiles to always have it ready for the different games and programs that we have on our PC. We can also customize the backlight system in color intensity and light effects, although we cannot change the color of the lighting but we can turn it off. Finally we have a section dedicated to the creation and management of macros and the gaming mode that allows us to disable the windows key to avoid accidents while playing our favorite games.

This new Razer BlackWidow Ultimate maintains all the benefits of previous models and adds some interesting new features such as the IP54 certificate, this makes the keyboard resistant to dust, and most importantly, to liquid so that it will not die if we drop a glass of water on top accidentally.

The ergonomics is very good, although some users will miss the presence of a wrist rest, an addition that we have seen in many other keyboards of the brand, although the sale price of this model is much more adjusted for what it is understood that it must be cut in some section.

Their Razer Green switches work really well, if you are a lover of metallic sound you will like them a lot, but if you prefer a quieter keyboard you will hate them, because they are the noisiest on the market like the Cherry MX Blue on which they are based. The quality of these mechanisms is beyond doubt and they assure us a keyboard for many years.

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate is for sale for a price of approximately 110 euros, quite adjusted for what we are used to seeing on mechanical keyboards.
