Anonim

Surely most of us who use our personal computer on a daily basis have encountered one of the most frequently recurring problems. And it is none other than losing files due to problems in Windows or because, by mistake we have completely removed them from our hard drive. For almost everything there is a solution and this is precisely what Remo Recover is looking for, a tool with which you can recover lost files from your hard drive and much more.

In this review we are going to test the product offered by the Remo Software team. We are going to break down the features of Remo Recover, how to obtain and install it and of course, if possible, to recover our lost files.

First of all, thank the guys at Remo Software for the assignment of their product to carry out the relevant tests.

That offers?

Remo Recover is presented as a software capable of recovering files on all types of media. Let's see what it promises:

  • Recovery of bad partitions: it is a tool capable of recovering lost or bad partitions after formatting or a failed reinstallation of Windows. Recovering data from cards and solid hard drives: This tool will also be able to recover files and folders from solid storage media. Such as SD cards, USB storage devices and SSD hard drives. File recovery from Android devices. We will also have the possibility to analyze and recover files from devices with the Android system. Repair videos: in case we have a corrupt video, Remo Recover offers the possibility of repairing its content so that it can be played again. General file repair: in addition to video it also promises to recover text documents, ZIP, RAR images, etc. Migration of Outlook files to other machines: with this tool we can migrate Outlook personal information files through backups made from one machine to another.

Versions and platforms available

We will have the possibility of acquiring this software for both Windows and Mac operating systems. Currently the program is in version 4.0 for these two platforms.

As for the available packages we will have three different options. In addition, it offers us the possibility of downloading a free version that will allow us to scan our storage units, but we will not be able to recover anything until we buy one of the licenses.

  • Basic.Medium.Professional.

We must emphasize that we will not have a version capable of recovering files unless we buy it. We have also not seen that any of these versions has a free trial period, so we must buy blindly, if we know if it is really going to offer us solutions, since we can only analyze the disk looking for deleted files.

Minimum requirements

As for the requirements it asks for, they are merely protocol. Obviously it is a program that will consume us one minimum resources. Even so, it is worth reviewing them.

  • Processor: 1.2 GHz or higher Hard disk: 100 MB. We see that it is an application that weighs relatively little. RAM: 1 GB, recommended 2 GB. 1024 x 768 resolution. It must be used by a user with administrator permissions on the computer.

In addition, it is compatible with practically all versions of Windows 32 or 64 bits, a point in its favor, in case you do not have Windows 10.

In the support information, it gives us a warning: we must not install the software on the same drive or partition from which we intend to recover the data.

In a way it is a handicap for users who only have a hard drive or a partition. And they are the majority, so for these users it is possible that they run the risk of losing this data that they want to recover. In this aspect, this software should offer greater security for these specific users, since not everyone has multiple hard drives on their computer.

Installation and interface

The installation process is simple and fast. We will only have to click on "Next" all windows and choose the installation directory. We remind you that it is advisable not to install it on the same hard disk or partition that we want to recover.

After installation, the appearance of the program will be as follows:

We only have English available as a language, so it will be necessary to have knowledge of it.

Its interface at first seems to be very clean and sad to use. On the main screen we have three visible options, Recover files, recover drives and recover photos, videos and audio.

Option “recover files”

Two other options are presented in this section. Let's see what steps we must follow to achieve our goal:

Recover Deleted Files:

Choosing this option we will access a selection screen for existing hard drives and partitions. After choosing the disk you want, the program will analyze the hard disk for deleted files. Deleted files or directories are displayed with a red "x". Until now the program has correctly detected which folders we have deleted. Let's see how it recovers the files.

If we continue, the program implements the option of storing the recovery process to be able to continue at another time. Something useful for long processes. Next, we will have to select a directory to store the recovered data, it also offers the possibility of storing it on a Compact Disc. From here we need to have a license to continue the process. It would be useful to have a trial version to prove that the software really does its job. Or at least make it easier for us to recover a certain number of files.

In the results section we will analyze the files that we have been able to recover in each option.

Recover Lost Files:

Let's see what the wizard is like for the second option available. This option is aimed at finding data on deleted partitions or formatted hard drives, that is, the complexity increases.

In this wizard it begins in the same way as the previous one, but in this case it gives us the option to select both hard drives or complete drives, as well as partitions. Unlike the previous option, in this case we will be able to choose which file extensions we want the program to recover to search for.

Remo Recover has taken considerably more time for this procedure, since it has carried out a complete search on the hard disk. We can say that this option is a more advanced and detailed version than the previous one.

Option “Recover Partitions / Drives” (recover discs or partitions)

For this case we will also have two options:

Recover partition (partition recovery):

We will be able to recover data from a corrupted or deleted partition.

The wizard starts by hanging a storage unit to detect and search for previous partitions. Once these are found, we must select one of them to perform the file analysis and recovery procedure.

From here the procedure is repeated as in the Recover Lost Files option

Recover formatted disk (Formatted / Reformated recovery)

We can recover data from a partition formatted or in which we have reinstalled an operating system.

The wizard step structure is very similar to the above. It will ask us to choose a hard disk and the wizard will detect which partitions have been formatted. Otherwise the identical steps.

Option "Recover Photos / Video / Audio" (recover Photos video and audio)

This section of functionalities is specifically aimed at recovering multimedia files, be they photos, videos or audio. In addition, it is also possible to do it from any removable storage unit connected to the PC.

In addition to recovering them, it will also try to repair them.

Recover deleted photos (Recover Deleted Photos / Video / Audio):

To recover deleted media items. The Remo Recover wizard is the same as the Recover Lost Files option. We select the hard disk and the extension that we want to recover. It makes it a good alternative to recover data from hard drive.

Recover lost photos (Recover Lost Photos / Video / Audio):

The fundamental difference with the previous one is that the program will do a deeper analysis to have a better chance of recovering entire files.

Performance and results obtained

To carry out the tests we have arranged a hard disk in which a file directory of approximately 200 MB has been placed.

As for the utility aimed at recovering deleted files, we have done the same with these, completely eliminating them and emptying the RAM memory.

For partition recovery procedures we have also created a partition, dumped a number of files and then removed it.

Finally, for the recovery of formatted disks, since we have formatted the hard disk.

We will also try to recover older files that would have been on this hard drive.

First utility: Recover Files

Using this option Remo Recover has recovered most of the files. Although it is true that it is a recently deleted folder, the vast majority of files have been recovered correctly, except for some PDFs and Word files.

Older files have a higher failure rate, especially those that should be opened with text editors.

With the second option we have recovered fewer files correctly, around 40% than with the previous option. Specifically for a hard disk formatted using slow (full) mode, it was not possible to recover any files correctly.

We have not recovered deleted files of high longevity in this case.

Second utility: Recover Drives (Recover files from partitions and formatted disks)

Our experience with the option to recover a partition has not been positive. It correctly detects previous partitions, although it has not correctly detected files to recover. Perhaps it was a mistake of ours, although it seems a bit strange looking at the good performance in the other aspects.

For the second option and with a quick format, we have recovered around 80% of files correctly, although as with the first option, most of the corrupted files are of the pdf or docx type.

It should be noted that the recovered files are the latest. The rest have bugs when opening them mostly.

Third Utility: Recover Photos from a removable USB drive

Using the first option, Remo Recover has recovered all the photos. Videos can be seen and music can be heard. Only a low percentage of photos appear distorted and small cuts in the video. Presumably, larger videos have certain cuts or missing parts.

On the part of the second option, we have been pleasantly surprised. From a 16 GB USB drive in which, in principle, we had put a small folder, we have managed to recover not only this one, but also files of a fairly important age (months). The 10 GB figure recovered from this drive has been exceeded. And almost all files are functional, even 50 minute videos.

Final words about Remo Recover

The first aspect to take into account of this Remo Recover is its ease of use. Virtually all wizards are identical making it very easy to use.

Remo Recover presents good features for recently stored files, in the Recover Files utility and especially with the Recover Photos / Video / Audio utility. The recovery rate has been very high for recent files and lower the older the files to be recovered. Which makes it an ideal photo recovery program.

We highlight the excellent file recovery of the removable USB drive almost 11 GB of 16 device capacity. Also, they were really old files that have been perfectly recovered.

In counterpoint, the Recover Drive option, corresponding to the Pro version, has not given us as good results as the previous ones, presenting a lower recovery rate.

Another negative aspect is the unavailability of a trial version for file recovery, since we can only carry out a recovery if we have some of the paid licenses. In this sense, it is difficult for a user to have enough confidence in this software to acquire it without knowing how it will work.

In general it is a very good tool for the recovery of multimedia files, such as photos, videos and audio. This utility is available for the Media version with a price of € 50. We highlight the excellent performance with USB devices.

In general it is one of the best options that can be found in the market especially for multimedia files. For a price of € 50 the average version offers excellent features compared to higher cost programs such as EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard or Disk Drill
