Cooler Master Siedon 120XL

Cooler Master presents its liquid cooling kit in a bulky and robust box that its function of protecting fulfills it in an extraordinary way. In it we have printed an image of the kit, the characteristics in several languages and a brief description.

As soon as we opened the box we found that both the radiator, pump and accessories are perfectly protected and sealed in a plastic bag. The block includes a plastic blister to avoid scratches on the base during transportation.

The Cooler Master Seidon 120 XL has a size of 150 mm x 120 mm x 38 mm. Although it is only 12 cm… it is quite important that its thickness is almost 4 cm, since it will withstand strong overclocking. It has a total of 12 2.54 cm fins, allowing a lower static pressure than other kits.

View of the thickness of the radiator. Be careful with removing the factory fill plug. Doing so will break the warranty we have with Cooler Master.

The block / pump has a quite novel design with a translucent plastic layer and a blue LED when it is on. The noise of the pump is null, that is, it is typical for a Quiet PC system. It is powered from a 4-pin PWM connection to the motherboard.

The tube is corrugated and its flexibility is not as good as in other kits. Although its installation is quite simple in any box.

These types of kits are characterized by being maintenance-free and factory pre-sealed and sealed.

It includes two pretty good fans. They rotate at a speed of 600 to 2400 RPM and generate an air flow of up to 86 CFM. By including a PWM Y adapter, it allows us to regulate it via the motherboard (without the need for a rehobus).

Installation

The assortment of screws and accessories is of quality. Although I really liked that the installation adapter is so easy and intuitive. And is that Asetek are quite bad in that regard. The bundle includes:

  • Liquid Cooler Kit Cooler Master Seidon 120 XL2 12 cm2 fans Anti-vibration rubbers for fans Accessories for installation 1 Adapter and PWM Phillips head to install the hardware.

Accessories for AMD socket.

And the ones that we are going to use for the Haswell 115X platform.

Instruction manual and warranty book in different languages.

This time we have used the Asrock Z77-E Itx as a test motherboard. We go to the back and install the backplate by adjusting the pins to the holes in the socket.

Next we tighten the nut to the screw.

For a correct installation we use the Phillips head to make a perfect fit.

We apply thermal paste. My recommendation a uniform line. If it fits you like this, it also works for us.

We have four small screws that we use to install the adapters to the block. In this case we have used the Intel 1150/1555/1556.

Being that way.

We tighten the 4 screws to the nuts and connect the 4-pin PWM connection (the one on the pump) to the motherboard. Installation done in 10 minutes!

To test the actual performance of the heatsink, we stressed the Intel i7 4770kk processor (Socket 1150) with prime numbers (Prime95 custom) and with the two Cooler Master fans in PWM mode. Prime95, is a well-known software in the overclocking sector and allows us to detect faults when the processor works 100% for long hours. It is the same case as LINX which stresses the CPU and memory at the same time.

How are we going to measure the processor temperature?

We will use the internal sensors of the processor. For this test on Intel processors we will use the “Core Temp” application in its version: 1.0 RC3 It is not the most reliable test, but it will be our reference in all our analyzes. The test bench will be around 29ºC ambient temperature.

Let's see the results obtained:

Final words and conclusion

The Cooler Master Seidon 120 XL is a compact liquid cooling kit with a single radiator and two high-speed fans. The base of the block is made of ionized copper and the surface is made of translucent plastic with blue LEDs. We have two hoses or corrugated tubes, regarding their flexibility it is quite optimal for installation in any tower.

The mounting system is very simple to use and comes equipped with a large number of accessories, personally I find it the best in these two aspects: two fans that run up to 2400 RPM, anti-vibration rubbers, full compatibility with all AMD and Intel sockets and thermal caldiad paste. Like all liquid cooling kits we have plus install any type of high profile ram memory (Corsair Vengeance, Kingston Predator, Corsair Dominator…) and it allows the graphics cards not to swallow all the heat of the processor. Many of you are concerned about the noise of the pump, I can assure you that the Cooler Master Seidon XL is one of the best options to the Quiet Silent in all-in-one RL kits.

To test its cooling efficiency, I wanted to use a latest generation processor: Intel Haswell 1150, specifically the i7 4770k. Its idle temperatures are very good at 30ºC and its maximum stressing the CPU with Prime95 Ftt1792 is 68ºC with an overclock at 4400 mhz at 1, 245v in an Asus Maximus VI Extreme.

Currently it can be purchased in online stores over € 80. This is a standard price compared to the most direct competition.
