Review: g.skill sniper cl9 2x4 (8gb)

At the end of March G.Skill announced its new series of RAM memories "Sniper". Designed for the most enthusiastic gamers and overclockers.

In this analysis we will see if it meets the expectations set.

This new Sniper series has several attractive points. The first is its new heatsink design, which mimics the shape of a rifle. We are also surprised by its low voltage to work (1.25v) at 1600mhz, although we can find models at 1.35v, 1.50v and 1.6v. With the frequencies of 1333/1600/1866 Mhz with latencies CL9 and CL7.

When we made the analysis of the G.Skill Ripjaws X CL9 we had other components and we have passed the following benchmarks again:

• Super Pi Mod v1.5.Winrar 4.0.Aida 64.Wprime 2.05.

In this way we will be comparing them under the same conditions. On the next page are the results we have had in our laboratory.

As we can see the Ripjaws offers more performance in all tests than the Sniper series.

After the results obtained, we can deduce that the 'Ripjaws X' series gets better performance and overclocking than the 'Sniper' series. We have tried to improve the latencies with a little more than 1.5v without success. The aspect that we liked the most is its low voltage, thanks to it it allows us a lower consumption and low temperatures compared to other memories. When we talk about G.Skill we are talking about quality and a lifetime guarantee, although we still think that for most users of socket 1555, this kit will more than meet their expectations, since for practical purposes we could say that raising the RAM to more than 1600 mhz gives a marginal gain in most applications and where these differences can be seen most is in different synthetic tests. We will also remind overclockers that in this socket the importance of the bus has decreased and that Overclock is practically only done through a multiplier, so memory is no longer as decisive as it could be in other sockets. For all this, we consider that for a “normal” user, these memories are ideal for what they offer and for the price they do.
