Review: gelid gx

Gelid in Latin means extremely liquid or frozen. On this occasion we have brought the new Gelid GX-7 heatsink to our laboratory, designed for the gaming world. Its design is very attractive and includes an extremely quiet fan.

The Gelid GX-7 has its own design on its heatpipes. instead of the traditional line it uses a “V” shaped distribution. As we can see in the following images, two heatpipes have been moved to the top.

With this design we focus the heat on the same point.

Once we open the box, all the components come perfectly packed in boxes and foam rubber.

As we discussed above, the heatpipes are V-shaped.

The base is copper and comes with a plastic protector.

This is the basic mounting kit for both platforms. Highlight its GC2 thermal paste.

Intel and AMD anchors.

We can install a second fan. Gelid has provided us with a second fan for testing.

It comes perfectly packed. The fan is accompanied by screws, silentblocks and a sticker.

For its installation in Gelid boxes it has the detail of including 4 silentblocks.

Another of the details of the fan is its sleeving. 100% quality.

We are going to install on the Intel Socket 1555 platform. We start by placing the backplate and inserting the 4 screws.

We add the 4 threads to the support and apply thermal paste to the CPU.

We place the heatsink and tighten the 4 screws.

To test the actual performance of the heatsink we are going to stress the CPU with full memory floating point calculation (Linx) and prime number (Prime95) programs. Both programs are well known in the overclocking sector and serve to detect failures when the processor works 100% for long hours.

How are we going to measure the processor temperature?

We will use the internal sensors of the processor. For this test on Intel processors we will use the “Core Temp” application in its version: 0.99.8. It is not the most reliable test, but it will be our reference in all our analyzes. The test bench will be around 20 / 21º ambient temperature.

In our test bench we will use the following configurations:

• 1 x Gelid Wing 12PL 1800 RPM. 2 x Gelid Wing 12PL 1800 RPM.

The Gelid GX-7 heatsink has surprised us with its unique body dissipation ability. It comes equipped with a fantastic Wing PL12 fan with blue UV LEDs, although we can always install a second one. As we have seen the Gelid GX-7 is a heatsink made for a moderate Overclock, but if we add a second fan it is capable of competing against double body heatsinks. Its results are very good with an Intel 2600k @ 4800mhz: 75º C with Linx and 72ºC Prime95.

The fans have worked at 12v without any noise, thanks to their Nanoxflux bearings. Among its accessories attached GC-Extreme thermal paste, kit for the installation of Intel and AMD socket, clips for the installation of a 2nd fan.

If you are looking for a heatsink with a beautiful blue aesthetic and excellent performance, the Gelid GX-7 should be your choice. Its recommended price is € 45.
