Review: nvidia gtx titan and sli gtx titan
Just under a year ago, the Nvidia Kepler architecture was released, with the launch of the 6XX series. This time Nvidia deploys its entire arsenal, and with a bang on the table, shows us what the GK110 really gives of itself.
Product ceded by:
GTX TITAN, is the name of the fastest computer in the world The Oak Ridg National Laboratory , located in Tennessee, aptly named Titan, is home to 18, 668 Nvidia Tesla K20X capable of delivering 17.59 petaflops in the Linpack benchmak.
The Nvidia GTX Titan is based on that chipset, GK110, so it is not surprising that they wanted to give it that name.
This card carries a new set of features such as the GPU Boost 2.0, the overvoltage control, the Vsync control, forced up to 80 Hz, a new steam chamber cooling, improved performance with double calculation precision and a considerable reduction in the acoustics of the card.
The basic specifications for the Titan GTX tell us about 5 GPCs, SMX 14, 2, 688 Cuda cores (Simple precision), 896 Cuda cores (Double precision), 448 texture units, 48 ROP´s 6 GB of DDR5 memory, a bus 384 bit, 28nm process and finally 7.1 million transistors with a 1536K L2 cache. The card's base clock is 837 Mhz, boosted to 876 Mhz, while memory runs 6008Mhz (1502 effective Mhz).
Only by looking at these specifications can we guess the potential underneath that precious chassis. But let us leave out technical details, and we are going to see closely and with real tests, this beauty of engineering.
This time we have had the opportunity to try a version of Gigabyte, but all of Titan's reference cards are the same.
The card comes in a box that on the outside indicates the model, the memory, which is supported by Windows 8, and the utility of Gigabyte OC GURU II Overclock.
The case, very elegant whole black with its raised faces and the Gigabyte logo.
Inside the case, we can find, another smaller case with the accessories that come with the card, a Gaming mat, quite thick, power cables, installation guide, driver CD, and a deck of cards, with more gaming accessories. In my opinion, a bundle, more than concise for a card of this price… Where are the games that Nvidia promised?
The Card:
The word TITAN engraved on its edge is very striking.
The Nvidia logo is also engraved on the back of the card.
The heatsink chassis is truly eye-catching, the words GEFORCE GTX light up in a green hue once the card is turned on.
The PCB of the card, shows us the complexity of it, as well as the monstrous size of the chip. and the memory modules around it.
Detail of the power connectors, two of 6 and 8 pins respectively, capable of carrying the card, together with its PCI EXPRESS power supply up to more than 250W…

The tests passed in our laboratory, are passed on a 27 ″ monitor, with a resolution of 2550 x 1440. Since this graphics card is focused on high resolutions, extreme players who like multi-monitor, or wild filter configurations.
To get an idea of the potential of it they are compared to a 3 Way GTX 670, in order to see more clearly the performance we are talking about.
I have to make a point, and that is that when the cards were changed from 670 to Titan, the beta came out with which the tests were passed to Titan, hence the variation in the Tomb Raider.
The rest of the games have not been affected, since the improvement in those drivers was only for that game.
In our OC tests, we have pushed the clock of the frequency up to 1188 Mhz, passing several tests we have come to put them at 1200, but the protections that the cards have, make them lower the clocks, when they reach the established limit of 80º. For protection for her, these adjustments made by the Turbo Boost 2.0 are responsible for lowering the frequencies to an acceptable speed to ensure that the cards do not burn.
WE RECOMMEND YOU Available Game Ready 430.39 drivers with support for the GTX 1650These are the results obtained with this overclock.
Also, we have measured the consumption of our equipment, for them we have used an electricity meter, directly connected to an outlet, this data is what the equipment takes directly from the wall outlet.
We are really facing the most powerful graphics card on the market, without any kind of doubt. The card has just been released, and it still does not have official drivers for it, since its release only beta versions have appeared, and they were not exclusive to Titan.
Seeing the potential it has, very close to a 670 SLI, and that it still has to be improved a lot by drivers, this card has all its potential to be exploited yet. Quietly we can talk about a 50% improvement over a GTX 680, and that on an output card is a lot of profit. Without forgetting the low noise level and the good temperatures at which a card of this caliber is kept, we are very satisfied with what we have seen.
We also have to refer to a fact that in fact is shown in the tables, if we look at them, we can see how the performance curves between minimums and maximums are not as pronounced as with the 670. That translated into games, is a stunning smoothness in terms of the FPS we perceive. That "smoothness" was only perceived with the 480/580, the GTX 6XX series, has many ups and downs in its framerate, making the gameplay less smooth.
It goes without saying that we are dealing with a product that due to its specifications is indicated to work at high resolutions, feeling comfortable from 1080p upwards. And with all the options and filters we want.
The only negative point of this card is its high price, located around 800 e + VAT (in a long € 1000), that price is indicative and depends on many things, normally we will find it more expensive, possibly due to the dealer price, transportation and other expenses associated with these components.
In short, an expensive and very exclusive product, but one that has unmatched performance and few drawbacks, saving the price.
Many thanks to Jon from Izarmicro for the transfer of the graphics card. It has always shown us that it is the leading national customer service store.
