AMD Radeon RX 5700
The AMD Radeon RX 5700 is the first graphics of the pair of the Texan company. They arrive in a good time for the brand and seek to reach a little higher in terms of power than their predecessors. When they were announced, there was already a stir and expectations were very high. However, do they live up to what we expect?
The Radeon RX 5700 will go on the market for an approximate price of € 370 and plans to be a medium and medium-high standing graphic. It launches new technologies, a new architecture and among its specifications we have:
- Architecture: RDNA 1.0 PCB board: Navi 10 Base frequency: 1465 MHz Boost frequency: 1725 MHz Transistor count: 10.3 billion Transistor size: 7nm Memory speed (effective): 14 Gbps Memory size: 8 GB GDDR6 Memory interface: 256-bit Max memory bandwidth: 448 GB / s Power connectors: 1x8pin and 1 × 6 pin TDP: 180W Release date: 7/7/2019 Approximate price: € 370
As you can see, it has quite high specifications, although it also requires a corresponding energy consumption.

A while ago news like this was seen, but today the RX 5700 faces the new younger sister of Nvidia . We are going to see a close battle RTX 2060 SUPER vs Radeon RX 5700 and will AMD be up to the task or Nvidia will have tightened the screws enough?
There is a version of AMD's 50th anniversary , which is much more powerful, but we will not consider it in this review.
Nvidia RTX 2060 SUPER
This gleaming graphic belongs to the new SUPER range of Nvidia RTX 20 graphics. Several weeks ago the surprise announcement that the green team made via Twitter and YouTube and back then we didn't have much idea. However, as the leaks happened, we got a glimpse of what Nvidia's master plan was.
With more powerful PCBs , more refined technology, and more cutting-edge specifications, the Nvidia RTX 20 SUPER is looking forward to a fight. Although it is not a generational leap, as when we have a change in architecture, they do mean a general improvement for the environment.
Because they are priced similarly to their predecessors, the new graphics will offer a good performance upgrade without further increasing the cost of these components.
To get a closer look at these charts, you have to know that their main specifications are:
- Architecture: Turing PCB board: TU106 Base frequency: 1470MHz Boost frequency: 1650MHz Transistor count: 10.8 billion Transistor size: 12nm Memory speed (effective): 14 Gbps Memory size: 8GB GDDR6 Memory interface: 256-bit Max memory bandwidth: 448 GB / s Power connectors: 1x8pin TDP: 175W Release date: 7/9/2019 Approximate price: € 420
The RTX 20 SUPER arrive on the market throughout July (on the 9th, the three standard versions) and plan to replace and elevate this line of graphics.
The mystery around them has made these components have caught the attention of most of the press and users, but will they survive the hype? Of course, they are an improvement in performance compared to the basic versions and previous generations and now there is only one question: How well will they fight against AMD graphics?
RTX 2060 SUPER vs Radeon RX 5700
In general, both graphs have quite similar numbers, so, as a basis, we cannot differentiate a stronger contender. The number of transistors, the amount of dedicated video memory, the bandwidth and many other sections are almost identical.
We are going to see some sections where both graphs do manage to differ a little.
- The RTX 2060 SUPER has a very slightly higher base frequency, but on the other hand, the Radeon RX 5700 has a much better boost frequency. The RX 5700 offers technologies like PCIe 4.0 , which for data transmission is about 30-40% better than the current PCIe 3.0 standard. The price of the AMD graphics is slightly better than that of Nvidia .
Although, without a doubt, there is a section where the Nvidia graphic shows its chest: the transistors.
In this matchup, AMD plays with some advantage, as it mounts tiny transistors as low as 7nm . Unfortunately, even with that, it does not achieve a remarkable advantage, rather the opposite. The number of transistors that both graphs package is quite similar, but the point where they differ is their consumption.
Normally, having smaller transistors usually means being able to pack more in the same space and, consequently, having more computing power. In addition, being smaller, they generate less heat and usually require less energy to function, but this is not the case. The RX 5700 has slightly higher consumption than Nvidia and, although it is not a very relevant section for an average user, it is noteworthy.
As you can see, in terms of numbers we did not find a clear winner. Let's go to the benchmarks and data section to see how well both graphs perform and how they take advantage of their potentials.
Synthetic Benchmarks: RTX 2060 SUPER vs Radeon RX 5700
The next data you will see are synthetic tests on 3DMark Fire Strike, Fire Strike Ultra and Time Spy. In them we will see the average global scores that we have obtained as a result. Next to them, you will see the data of other components of the same generation and even previous generations.
In these tests we have done, the AMD charts show a little more muscle. They achieve results according to their theoretical potential and establish a close relationship with their opponents, since they are always very close to each other.
RTX 2060 SUPER | RX 5700 | |
3DMark Fire Strike | 20260 | 20364 |
Fire Strike Ultra | 5415 | 5321 |
Time Spy | 8933 | 8113 |
With these numbers, we could give the RX 5700 some merit , but in Time Spy the Nvidia graphics regains quite a bit of ground. Not for nothing, now we will continue with the tests in video games to see how these two graphics behave.
Gaming Benchmarks (fps) : RTX 2060 SUPER vs Radeon RX 5700
The following data that you will see are the average frames that we have obtained in different video games. The settings are 1080p, 1440p and 4K with the options in ultra.
The team with which these video games have been tested has been:
Processor: Intel Core i9-9900K
Motherboard: MSI MEG Z390 ACE
Memory: G.Skill Sniper X 16 GB @ 3600 MHz
Heatsink: Corsair H100i RGB Platinum SE
Hard Drive: ADATA Ultimate SU750 SSD
Power Source: Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 11 1000W
Monitor: Viewsonic VX3211 4K mhd
The data on Doom (2016) has an asterisk because they are made with Vulkan , which is why AMD graphics are so benefited. If we perform the same tests on Doom (2016) in OpenGL, the results are much more disappointing with 76, 54 and 30 fps in 1080p, 1440p and 4K, respectively.
Overall, the results are pretty even, but we can see how the RTX 2060 SUPER tends to take more frames than the RX 5700 . The difference ranges from 1-2 fps in some games to 10-15fps in others, i.e. an improvement of about 5% -7%.
Energy consumption
Next, we will see the graphs from another perspective: the power consumed.
In these tables, we can see that Nvidia's graphics are more efficient than their AMD counterparts. It is a trend that has been seen over the years, but we expected it to change in some generation.
At rest, the RX 5700 spends about 20W more than its adversary, but when we subject it to hard work, it is the AMD graphics that lags behind. This seems to mean that the Nvidia components spend little when they are not needed, but when they have to work they start the engines at 100% .
Here we see the same data reflected from the point of view of temperatures and the trend continues. The green team graphics are kept at considerably lower temperatures, but not only at rest, since with workload they also obtain much better results.
The difference ranges between + 12ºC and + 14ºC, numbers that are certainly worrying. Although both graphs can work perfectly at these temperatures, having less degrees is always better for computational calculations and for the life expectancy of the components.
We see that although Nvidia reaches higher powers, its cooling system is considerably superior. We must emphasize that in this comparison we take into account the factory versions of both graphs.
Final conclusion between RX 5700 vs RTX 2060 SUPER
I think we can conclude that, in general, this new graphics from Nvidia is superior to the new one from AMD. Both have similar numbers and the RX 5700 gives us slightly better results in synthetic tests. However, the Nvidia graphics sticks out in video game performance, a much more everyday task in the life of a user.
On the other hand, energy efficiency is another section where the green team can boast. Its graphics are more efficient and consume less, on average. All this, in addition, it does with temperatures well below those of its competition.
Finally, it is worth talking about the price since the cost of getting an RTX 2060 SUPER vs RX 5700 is relevant. From the factory, they will cost us a few euros less than AMD's , although everything is subject to how the market behaves. It is possible that one will devalue faster than another, but with the official data, we believe that the clearest conclusion is that AMD's graph is slightly superior than Nvidia's .
Although the RTX 2060 SUPER has better performance in everyday tasks and better energy efficiency, that does not justify the extra price of € 50 . On the other hand, AMD graphics tend to devalue fairly quickly, but, as we have said, it all depends on how the market behaves.
As is often the case, Nvidia offers good performance and great efficiency, but for an extra value that not everyone is willing to pay. On the other hand, AMD graphics offer a very even performance and technologies according to the times we live in. This combination, together with its price, make it a very attractive alternative.
In addition, it is possible that the next models of the RX 5700 offer us better cooling, so the temperature section would be eliminated.
And you, what do you think of SUPER vs Navi? What do you think is the best graphics processor combination in quality / price right now? Share your ideas in the comment box. Although we want to emphasize that the competition is maximum. We want to know your opinion!
