The creator of the popular GPU-Z (W1zzard) tool has discovered that Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2060 Super graphics cards have up to three different device IDs.

RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super have multiple IDs

Each graphics card has its own device ID, which helps the operating system identify the exact model of the card that is currently installed in the system. If you remember, Nvidia used to use Turing matrices for its GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2070 graphics cards. For this same reason, the RTX 2080 and RTX 2070 graphics cards had two different device IDs. Nvidia has reportedly ended that practice. Therefore, it is certainly intriguing to see several device IDs for the same card once again.

Model device ID
Nvidia GeForce RTX2080 Super 1E81
Nvidia GeForce RTX2080 1E87
Nvidia GeForce RTX2080 1E82
Nvidia GeForce RTX2070 Super 1E84
Nvidia GeForce RTX2070 Super 1EC7
Nvidia GeForce RTX2070 Super 1EC2
Nvidia GeForce RTX2070 1F07
Nvidia GeForce RTX2070 1F02
Nvidia GeForce RTX2060 Super 1F06
Nvidia GeForce RTX2060 Super 1F47
Nvidia GeForce RTX2060 Super 1F42

W1zzard noted that the IDs of the 1EC7 and 1F47 devices effectively match the device IDs of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2060 Super Founders Edition. The other two device identifications remain a puzzle. Based on W1zzzard's observations, the difference between the IDs of the Super and non-Super devices is reduced to a value of 40 Hex. This is evident if we compare the RTX 2080 (1E87) with the RTX 2070 Super (1EC7) and RTX 2080 (1E82) with the RTX 2070 Super (1EC2). The same applies to the 2070 and 2060 Super model.

Nvidia could basically be converting existing RTX graphics cards to Super models.

When the pieces are put together, it seems that Nvidia is basically converting existing RTX graphics cards to Super models. For example, the RTX 2080 to the RTX 2070 Super and the RTX 2070 to the RTX 2060 Super. It seems logical if you think about it. We know that there are still two variants (A and not A) of 2080 and 2070, and now we have two additional Device IDs for RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super.

It is unclear if Nvidia is converting the cards, but if so, it is difficult to know if the conversion is done at the BIOS level or if there are any physical modifications to the graphics card PCB that allows this. The method used for conversion by Nvidia, of course, is a secret, as someone could take an RTX 2070 Super and convert it to an RTX 2080, which would be fatal to their business.

We will keep you informed.
