Finally, as leaked, AMD announces four new desktop processors in three very diverse categories. For starters, the company crowned its AM4 desktop platform with the powerful new Ryzen 9 3950X processor.

He then launched his new entry-level APU, the Athlon 3000G. Lastly, he detailed the third-generation Ryzen Threadripper HEDT processor family with two initial models, the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X and the flagship Ryzen Threadripper 3970X. AMD also released the AGESA Combo PI 1.0.0.4B microcode, and with it, introduced an interesting new feature for all “Zen 2” based Ryzen processors, called ECO Mode.

Ryzen 9 3950X, 16 cores and 32 threads

The Ryzen 9 3950X is a 16 core 32 core processor from AM4 platform, compatible with all AM4 socket motherboards as long as they have the latest BIOS update with AGESA Combo PI 1.0.0.4B microcode. The processor has a base 3.50 GHz frequency, with a maximum frequency of 4.70 GHz and the same TDP of 105 W as the 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X. With 512 KB of dedicated core L2 cache and 64 MB of shared L3 cache, the chip has 72 MB of "total cache."

Based on benchmarks presented by AMD, the Ryzen 9 3950X offers up to 22% faster single- core performance than the proven Cinebench R20 Ryzen 7 2700X, and 79% higher multi-core performance than the i9-9900K. The company also claims that gaming performance equals i9-9900K. It will be available for purchase from November 25 at a price of 749 US dollars, in Europe about € 799. It should be noted that AMD recommends at least using 240mm AIO liquid cooling to avoid temperature problems.

Athlon 3000G, better option than the Pentium G5400

They also announced the new Athlon 3000G, which has some superior model features. The 3000G is based on 12nm "Picasso" silicon that combines cores based on the "Zen +" microarchitecture with an iGPU based on the "Vega" architecture. The 3000G offers 2 cores and 4 threads and the Radeon Vega 3 integrated graphics, reaching a frequency of 3.50 GHz, 300 MHz more than the Athlon 200GE. One of the most interesting features is that it is unlocked for overclocking. Compared to the Pentium G5400, the 3000G offers up to 25% more performance and overclocking up to 85% improvement. It will be available for purchase from November 19, 2019.

Ryzen Threadripper 3960X and 3970X, 24 cores and 32 cores

Undoubtedly the most exciting thing about the launch was the announcement of its third-generation Ryzen Threadripper (HEDT) third-generation processors, debuting with two models, the Threadripper 3960X and Threadripper 3970X. The 3960X is a 24-core, 48-wire beast priced at $ 1, 399 (the exact same price as the previous-generation 24-core Threadripper 2970WX) that arrives with a base frequency of 3.80 GHz and a maximum frequency of 4.50 GHz and a total cache of 140 MB (L2 + L3). The 3970X, on the other hand, offers 32 cores / 64 threads priced at $ 1, 999. Despite having so many cores, it has a base frequency of 3.70 GHz and a maximum frequency of 4.50 GHz.

Both are based on the new sTRX4 socket and are released alongside the new AMD TRX40 chipset. The socket itself looks physically similar to the previous TR4 socket, meaning any CPU cooler or waterblock that supports TR4 will also support sTRX4. Your only consideration should be the heat load capacity of the heatsink, as both processors have a TDP of 280 W. Keep in mind that third-generation Ryzen processors do not have compatibility with motherboards prior to the X399 chipset. They will be available for purchase on November 25, 2019.

New feature, ECO Mode

Lastly, AMD announced a new feature called ECO Mode. Applicable to all AM4 socket processors that have "Zen 2" CPU cores (Ryzen 5 3500 and above), ECO mode is essentially an implementation of cTDP (configurable TDP) for the desktop platform. A "switch" is activated in Ryzen Master, and the processor's TDP becomes capped at 65 watts immediately. This interests us when we are not playing games or having a heavy workload. For the Ryzen 9 3950X, the ECO mode offers 77% performance, reducing the power consumption by 44%.

WE RECOMMEND AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.6.1
