Samsung will increase the production of memory dram
Table of contents:
Samsung Electronics, one of the world leaders in manufacturing of DRAM and NAND flash memory chips, has announced that it will increase the production capacity of two of its plants dedicated to the manufacture of DRAM memory chips located in South Korea. This increase in production will begin in the first quarter of 2018.
Samsung increases its DRAM production capacity
We have been experiencing a shortage of DRAM memory chips for more than a year, something that has caused the price of PC memory modules to double compared to a year ago. Initially, the situation was blamed on high demand from smartphone manufacturers, although it increasingly reminds us of the case of hard drives and the floods in Thailand, when it was shown that factories had kept prices inflated after having recovered their normal production capacity.
Only starting in the second half of 2018 end users could expect Samsung's increased DRAM production to have any effect on PC memory prices. On the other hand, if availability increases and prices fall, smartphone manufacturers will want to put even greater amounts of memory, so we could return to a similar situation quickly.
