Samsung starts production of 4-bit ssd qlc drives up to 4tb
Table of contents:
At the 2018 Flash Memory Summit (FMS), Samsung announced that it is mass-producing the world's first storage QLC SSD, offering capacities of up to 4TB and performance levels that can overwhelm the current SATA interface, providing sequential performance read / write of 540 MB / s and 520 MB / s respectively.
Samsung begins mass production of QLC SSDs
QLC NAND offers users 4 bits of data storage per cell, providing a 100% increase in storage capacity compared to MLC NAND and a 33% increase compared to commonly used TLC NAND, which It enables Samsung to offer greater capacity while using fewer NAND arrays, thereby increasing the price and SSD storage capacity.
If we want to see bigger and cheaper SSD drives, this is the way. Samsung claims that its 64-bit 4-layer V-NAND SATA QLC SSD can offer the same levels of performance as an equivalent 3-bit V-NAND TLC powered SSD, while offering a three-year warranty.
In addition to SATA-based consumer SSDs, Samsung also plans to launch M.2 NVMe SSDs with QLC technology to the enterprise market later this year. Samsung plans to offer its QLC-based consumer units with capacities of 1TB, 2TB and 4TB, although at this time Samsung has not specified a release date or the prices that they will have.
These new units are already in full production at the moment, and should shine brightly in 2019.
