Samsung could make gpus

Anonim

The South Korean giant Samsung is rumored to be able to enter the market for energy efficient GPUs for mobile devices, thus avoiding its dependence on GPUs from other manufacturers.

Recall that currently Samsung Exynos SoCs have process cores based on the ARM Cortex architecture combined with graphics processors designed by other companies such as ARM Mali and Imagination Technologies.

If this rumor becomes reality, Samsung could make a big leap in this market and would become the fifth manufacturer in the world to incorporate its own GPUs into SoCs, joining the current ARM, Qualcomm, NVIDIA and AMD. It would undoubtedly be a very serious rival to the giant Qualcomm that currently dominates the SoC market for smartphones.

Recall that Samsung announced a few months ago that they are already capable of mass-producing graphene making it a company with more than enough capacity to fully enter the manufacturing of graphics processors sooner rather than later.

Recently Samsung and Qualcomm have been sued by Nvidia for using several of its patents related to lighting, programmable shaders, unified shaders, parallel processing via GPU and graphic processing. The South Korean ruled saying that they would wage war on the matter for what is a well-founded rumor.
