South Korean Smasung has announced its new Samsung SM951 SSD storage device with an M.2 interface that allows it to bypass the bandwidth limitations of the SATA III port.

The new Samsung SM 951 is capable of reaching a random read and write rate of 1, 300MB / s and 1, 600MB / s respectively when mounted on computers with a PCI-E 2.0 interface with values of 130, 000 and 85, 000 IOPS for random read / write. If we mention it in computers with a PCI-E 3.0 interface, its speeds rise to 2, 150 MB / s and 1, 550 MB / s respectively.

Performance figures that are at least three times higher than that achieved by the SATA III interface and also improves the energy efficiency of its predecessor, the XP941 also with M.2 format by 30%. It is also the first SSD to adopt the L1.2 low-power state that comes into action when the PC hibernates or goes into sleep, thereby reducing its consumption to 2mW compared to 50mW consumed with the L1 state, 97% of decreased consumption.

Finally, the Samsung SM951 is built with 10nm NAND MLC memory and is offered in capacities of 128, 256 and 512 GB. Its date of availability and price are not known.
