After all the unofficial information that has been emerging, we already have the official confirmation of the new series of Intel processors, the Intel Core 9000 CPUs. Confirmation comes through the Intel Microcode Review Guide. The confirmed Coffee Lake S series are the 6 core processors; Core i5-9600 (K), Core i5-9500 (T) and Core i5-9400, while the Core i3-9100 and Core i3-9000 are listed in a 4-core configuration.

Intel Core 9000; Core i5-9600 (K), Core i5-9500 (T) and Core i5-9400, Core i3-9100 and Core i3-9000 listed

In general, there is a 100 or 200 MHz increase in maximum frequency while maintaining the same TDP, and in some cases 100 MHz of base frequency increases over Intel 8000 series CPUs. The 9600K, for example, increases the base clocks from the 8600K by 100 MHz (down to 3.7 GHz base), but achieves 4.5 GHz in Turbo.

Intel's strategy for its top-tier i7 remains a mystery: On the one hand, Intel could maintain its 8000 series tier scheme, with i7 models with 6 cores, but 12 threads through Hyper Threading, thus differing from the 6-core, 6-wire i5. But recent events have made it more likely that the company is planning to introduce its i9 tier to the desktop market.

For now, an 8-core, 16-thread CPU (Intel Core i9-9900K); a 6-core, 12-wire (Intel Core i7-9700K) and a 6-core, 6-wire (Intel Core i5-9600K) fit in perfectly with the Intel Microcode Upgrade Guide and octave spec updates generation. We will keep you informed.
