DigiTimes, citing industry sources, reports that the supply of NAND flash memory should improve from early 2018.

Flash NAND memory production will improve during Q1 2018

This probably shouldn't come as a surprise, as 2017 was not a good year for NAND and DDR flash memory makers, which have been unable to fully meet demand and this led to module prices rising.

Still, those tentative increases in production capacities should begin to release memory price compression during the first quarter of 2018, with the drop in PPV (average selling price).

It is said that one of the main causes in the drop in NAND flash production was due to the transition between 2D-NAND and 3D-NAND. This caused the production to be divided between both types of memory, failing to satisfy all the demand for traditional 2D-NAND (which is the most used today).

The increase in production and supply is not only due to production plant expansions, but the increased performance of 3D NAND manufacturing technologies has also been reported, which should also increase availability in the best possible way for manufacturers.

Although production improved in early 2018, analysts expect problems with lean production to return during the second quarter due to growing demand for all kinds of memories.
