Many problems are reported with the keyboards of the macbook pro

One of the characteristics of laptops is that they come with a large number of peripherals built into the device itself. One of the most important is the keyboard, which is responsible for much of the experience of use, and which is causing many failures in the MacBook Pro.

Large number of MacBook Pro keyboard failures

The problem specifically affects the 2016 and later MacBook Pro, the explanation for this is that these models are based on a membrane keyboard with “butterfly” type mechanisms. These butterfly-type mechanisms were introduced by Apple to improve the experience of use compared to traditional scissor-type mechanisms, which are most common on membrane keyboards.

We recommend reading our post on The best keyboards for PC (Mechanical, membrane and wireless) | January 2018

The butterfly-type mechanisms were introduced by Apple in the 2015 MacBook Pro, with a new revision the following year that shortens the tour of the buttons. This second generation of butterfly-type mechanisms is giving users many problems, with a failure rate much higher than expected and which is double that of the 2015 and 2014 models.

The cause of these failures would be the accumulation of dust and dirt under the keys, making these mechanisms fail very easily. It is highlighted that it is not possible to replace a single one of the butterfly-type mechanisms, so if one key fails, the entire keyboard must be changed.

Apple has not ruled on this, although it will have to do so in the coming days, since a widespread failure in a laptop with a cost as high as the MacBook Pro is somewhat unacceptable. We will be attentive to new information on the matter in the coming days.
