NVIDIA's GTX 1660 graphics card specifications have been leaked online, revealing a GPU with more CUDA cores than the GTX 1060. The most interesting thing about this new GPU is that NVIDIA decided to do without GDDR6 memory to end up using a classic GDDR5 memory. This will also be a huge disadvantage compared to the GTX 1660 Ti in terms of memory bandwidth.

GTX 1660 with more CUDA cores than GTX 1060 and with GDDR5

According to sources, the NVIDIA GTX 1660 will go on sale at an official price of $ 219 and will launch on March 14.

If the leaked specs are correct, Nvidia's GTX 1660 graphics card will offer 128 more CUDA cores than the GTX 1060 (1, 280), which will mean a performance improvement of approximately 10%. Combining this with the use of Nvidia's latest Turing architecture and higher reference clock speeds, the GTX 1660 will offer a noticeable performance boost compared to the aforementioned mid-range Pascal graphics card.

Comparative table with his older sister

GTX 1660 GTX 1660 Ti
Architecture Turing Turing
CUDA 1408 1536
Ray Tracing N / A N / A
Clock Base 1530 MHz 1500 MHz
Clock Boost 1785 MHz 1770 MHz
Memory Type GDDR5 GDDR6
Memory Capacity 6GB 6GB
Memory Speed 8Gbps 12Gbps
Bandwidth 192GB / s 288GB / s
BUS 192 bits 192 bits
SLI N / A N / A

As for the GDDR5, while the GTX 1660 offers the same bandwidth as the GTX 1060 on paper, the reality is that the Turing architecture is able to offer more effective bandwidth thanks to changes in the compression of the memory, giving the GTX 1660 a noticeable increase in memory performance. This increase is specific depending on the workload, making it difficult to specify a percentage value.

If you look at MSI's GTX 1660 designs, we can see that they are practically identical to their GTX 1660 Ti graphics cards.
