Seagate marks a new milestone in the consumer footprint industry, offering the first 1TB hard drive for both the BarraCuda Pro series and IronWolf.

Seagate Announces 12 TB BarraCuda Pro and IronWolf Disc

This is not the first 12 TB hard drive that we have seen, units of this capacity are already sold in the business sector, but it is the first that is available for mass consumption.

Consumer drives lack some of the advanced (and expensive) reliability features found in the business unit, but the BarraCuda Pro ($ 530 at Amazon) is still a hard drive to rely on, thanks to its 5 years warranty. The 3.5-inch drive spins at 7, 200 rpm, with a sizable 256MB cache. Below we can see a comparison with the 10 TB and 8 TB models.

Basically the features are similar, and even the 12TB Barracuda Pro would be somewhat faster than its younger siblings.

The 12TB IronWolf models ($ 576 at Amazon) are designed for use in network-attached storage bays like Synology's DiskStation ($ 300 at Amazon). IronWolf disk drives include reliability features such as disk integrity management and error recovery control software, as well as rotational vibration sensors to maintain optimized performance in multi-disk systems.

In an age where 1TB or 2TB drives are already falling short for a computer, welcome are these high-capacity drives.
