Seasonic prime airtouch, the source arrives with a manual control for the fan

If we take a little trip in the past to the Computex 2016 event, we find the moment that the prestigious Seasonic presents its new Seasonic Prime AirTouch power supplies, quite interesting with a very strong ventilation control.

Since then we have seen several Prime versions on the market, but the AirTouch model has remained on the sidelines until now as it is finally starting to arrive, especially in Japan. We hope that the availability will be effective in a few weeks for the rest of the countries of the world.

Seasonic AirTouch Prime is an ATX power supply that is currently offered with a power of 850 W, and an 80Plus Gold certification. Nothing very exciting at first glance, until we see the button, RGB, on the back. This button will allow modifying the behavior of the 135mm FDB fan through five modes, indicated by the color of the light.

• Silent mode (white) Light cooling mode (blue), set by default Medium cooling mode (green) Cooling mode (yellow) Turbo mode (red)

The first curve, (white), kills the fan when the load is below 40%. The second curve, (blue), runs the fan quietly up to 60% load, and speeds it up from there. The green curve runs the fan at moderate speeds and limits its speed to 65% beyond 80% of the load. The yellow curve maintains moderate speeds of up to 80% of the load, beyond which the maximum fan speed is limited to 80%. Turbo mode ignores all parameters and simply runs the fan at 100% speed.

While looking for the switch on the back isn't necessarily practical, having five modes of operation should allow everyone to find the right one, and typically they'll then stay in one mode, so the adjust button isn't something you it will be used every day.
